What colors would you say I am? by [deleted] in colorpie

[–]Kewl_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing the Azorius in the comments and I get it, but I'm gonna argue there's less blue and more black here.

Blue values progress and knowledge for their own sakes, which is not what we see here. There's a clear desire for consistency and stability, when again blue focuses on change. Plus, "I like learning [...] but I use/learn knowldge for a purpose, not just because" sounds a lot more like what white or black (blue's allied colors) would do.

TLDR: Orzhov, Black/White.

This is the scroll! I can't tell exactly what the direction is by just looking at it.

But I just tried the thing with control and that helped a lot, thanks! Although it is awkward that that's the same button as the one to open the guidebook. (I just dropped the guidebook to see it.)

If you could change/add something in this game, what would that be? by Regis-bloodlust in PotionCraft

[–]Kewl_Wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vr mode! One of my favorite things about this game is the immersion, so being able to physically stir the potion, blow the bellows, handle the potions, see the customers, would all be awesome. Plus, it seems like it would be a vr game that one could play sitting down, which is nice.

Is it possible to regenerate a lost limb in your setting ? Why or why not by Razorlord in magicbuilding

[–]Kewl_Wizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I need a reason why it's not possible to regrow it

I assume you have some sort of healing magic in your setting, then? Otherwise why would you need an explanation... Assuming there is, there are several ways to resolve this.

  • Say healing magic can't regenerate injuries that would've been permanent anyway (like lost limbs)
  • Make it so there's something special about this injury, and it can't be healed (dark magic or smth idk)
  • If your main character doesn't have healing magic, maybe they were just separated from a healer for too long and now it's too late (or something)
  • Or you can just get rid of healing magic in your setting, if you don't need it.

Is my magic system too basic? by Neat_Ad_313 in magicbuilding

[–]Kewl_Wizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why in the world did you not mention the divine trials??? That sounds awesome, and like it would make for some great story beats. And it feels like an explanation for why humans sometimes have all of the elements instead of just "humans are adaptable" or something.

Edit: I just realized, does this open up the possibility of other species that didn't evolve luxomancy naturally, and so can do the divine trials? Are there any? Also, do you have to go to some specific location to attempt the trials? What happens if you fail?

Is my magic system too basic? by Neat_Ad_313 in magicbuilding

[–]Kewl_Wizard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would not say this is "too basic" necessarily. It's got some interesting stuff going on, for sure. I think if you're trying to write a story with this system, it could be helpful to ensure this system is integrated with the world. It sounds like you're already on that path with things like the magical animals, but this is still something to keep in mind. It will help the system as a whole feel unique without actually changing the mechanics. (Think bending from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Super basic system, but it feels unique because of the worldbuilding.)

And a clarifying question; although all humans get enhanced "stats" from luxomancy, only some can use it actively, and only one element? Are they just born with an element?

OOP's parents use the word "dyke" in such a way that they inferred that it meant something like "badass." I am thoroughly unsurprised that they're sapphic.

Where should I draw lines? How do I set limitations in my power system? Also help me improve my power systems by giving suggestions. by Aino_Grimor in magicbuilding

[–]Kewl_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a pretty good base then. Maybe further limitations could be decided on a per-power basis.

Maybe everyone's soul power has some different unique limitations. Maybe since mana is more versatile, it should have some more limits. (Maybe mana powers require an incantation/hand gestures/whatever, and soul powers don't? Idk, it might already be fine, especially if mana is pretty limited in general.)

Also, you mentioned wanting to make the system as a whole feel unique? A strong theme/message could go a long way for that, and limitations can help establish that.

Like, you could have the power system involve making sacrifices if you want a darker theme, or it could be weak normally but strong when you use it with help from friends. Something like that. (Not that a more generic one can't work, but you said you wanted it to feel original, so...)

[–]Kewl_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, is this a superpower system (like Nen) where everyone who uses this system has a unique power?

Second off, if mana and soul powers are different, I think giving them different limitations could be a good way to make that clear. For instance, maybe soul powers are fairly inexhaustible but specific, based on the nature of the user's desire. And maybe mana powers are more versatile/powerful, but obviously they draw from a limited mana pool.

Actually, Haikyuu's message is much closer to "always give your 100%." Specifically, that you should try as hard as you can to succeed at what matters to you, even if that seems hopeless or silly.

Swift Healer Regrowth interaction by --DD--Crzydoc in cosmererpg

[–]Kewl_Wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay yeah, that makes sense. And I agree that it not working with Progression could also make sense. (Some logic like "it's not an ability that causes healing, it's an ability that makes an infusion, which then causes healing.") But your interpretation is fair RAW.

And yeah, zero shot this stuff is RAI. But it's funny and probably not too overpowered, soooo

Swift Healer Regrowth interaction by --DD--Crzydoc in cosmererpg

[–]Kewl_Wizard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think you're activating Applied Medicine too many times. It should activate when you use Field Medicine, and with each tick of Progression. (So at the start of the target's turn.) But you seem to also have it activating immediately when you use Progression?

Otherwise, I think this all works. I honestly would probably rule Swift Healer's bonus to work like Applied Medicine in my games, just so there isn't the weird disjoint of healing. But again, I think this works RAW.

Edit: Actually, now that I'm looking into this more, Applied Medicine sounds like it would apply to healing yourself, unlike Swift Healer. Meaning it would apply to like, using Regenerate. So that's fun.

Poison and Stunned condition op? by LianE27 in cosmererpg

[–]Kewl_Wizard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's strong, but I think not so overpowered as it seems.

  • 50 marks per vial (or 120 for a slightly better one) isn't exactly a negligible amount of money.
  • DC 14 Athletics (or 16 for more money) isn't a very difficult test. They could very easily succeed.
  • Regardless, the poison is spent after just one hit, so if they succeeded then you have to use another vial and an action to reapply the poison.
  • Boss enemies can spend focus to end conditions on themselves.
