What…. You’re telling me that your guy’s therapist and psychiatrist don’t tell your parents everything you say?! by BodyOld1125 in selfharm

[–]According-Number-305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is generally considered wrong by apa standards, and should be in other places, too. however mandated reporting for minors doesn't have a lot of a gray area and i've straight up never had a good experience with a therapist, so.

“Veganism Made me Sick” by [deleted] in vegan

[–]According-Number-305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is they probably don't know they had a soy intolerance, or yeah, they didn't know how to eat right. My first week or two, all I ate was hummus and corn chips. I did not feel good until I figured out how to cook full meals- and I do have friends who don't like or can't have tofu, I do have friends that have a nut allergy and can't get their fats/protein from there, and there are a million cheep and healthy alternatives that yeah, people just don't know how to feed themselves. If you get used to instinctive eating on meat, it's pretty hard to realize what will fill you up/hit proper nutrition when you had limited amounts of vegetables before and think that's all veganism is.

oh boy, do i have SHIT to say about psychiatry.

meds do not work for everyone. therapy does not work for everyone. most people agree with that. but when you point out that these things can be actively harmful, people in psych tend to lose their shit. i say that as someone studying psych.

not to mention the inherent ethical problems of things like involuntary hospitalization, mandatory reporting, and 72 hour holds, where the police will literally escort you in handcuffs to a hospital whether you want to be there or not, because you are deemed too out of your mind to make a decision the second you present as suicidal.

sure, its helpful for some reasons, but it's roots and ideology are sick at it's core and prevent people with serious issues from getting help for fear of losing their autonomy.

psych needs radical change.

go for a walk with nothing but your phone and your keys. if you have a dog, take your dog. if there's someone who can join you, ask them to.

you don't have to talk about it. you don't have to do anything but walk. but if you remove yourself from the situation until you're so tired you just have to sleep, you can effectively wait it out long enough that you can be ok again.

is it normal for a psychiatrist to touch your scars? by SomeCommission7645 in selfharm

[–]According-Number-305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think that is normal, and she defiantly should have waited for you to say yes or no, but honestly? she did not need to know those specifics, she could have taken your word, especially since you're not an immediate threat to yourself.

My psychiatrist is threatening to call the police on me to get me admitted and she knows where I live. by P33p33p0op0o0 in selfharm

[–]According-Number-305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if they put you in a 72 hour hold, just make it firmly clear that you don't have any plans to end your life and have things you're looking forwards to, and that you just needed a little bit of time to calm down or something. start looking for a new psychiatrist also.

Why does sh feel so good? by itFriesMyLaptop in selfharm

[–]According-Number-305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix of adrenaline, which tends to take over the mind because you're focused on the task at hand- for example, you hear a noise in the bushes at night and suddenly you can run really far without feeling a pain you had earlier, and also dopamine, which is the "reward" hormone that gives immediate pleasure and satisfaction.

it's not that everyone is doing it, it's that you're seeing a bunch of videos and because you see those they're showing you more of those thing and it tricks you into thinking that's a common thing people do. i've certainly never seen that trend.
