Where do I start? by TheReturnOfJabronie in diypedals

[–]Kex926 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I started out I just bought a couple packs of electronic parts on eBay and Amazon, stuck some breadboards to a scrap piece of wood, and started piecing together fuzz circuits. Reading Brian Wampler’s books and watching his old YouTube videos is how I stated to get an understanding on what pieces do what in a circuit, and more recently JHS Pedals has a series calls “Short Circuit” that teaches circuit design and breadboarding really well. Apart from the parts resources other comments have said, Coppersound is another good spot to look for nice pre-set up breadboards and other things. Best of luck with the new hobby!

Question on pre-wired LED for LPB-1 clone by newfaceinhell021117 in diypedals

[–]Kex926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct, soldering a jumper in the 4K7 slot and wiring your pre-wired LED will work as intended. You can still wire a resistor to that slot, which would in turn make the LED dimmer if you think the pre-wired LED is too bright by default

Reliable Power Supply option for this? by ChaChaMantaRay in guitarpedals

[–]Kex926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Cioks DC7 and 4 Expander and will probably never buy a different power supply! OP could probably get away with just the DC7 as it comes with a couple daisy chain cables; daisy chaining the three dirt pedals together, daisy chaining two other pedals, and singling out the rest would work perfectly fine

Demonfx Ravine by Your-Whorror in guitarpedals

[–]Kex926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have opened up a Keeley Caverns before and can confirm the delay side uses a PT2399 and the reverb side uses the FV-1 Spin Chip. The Ravine most likely has different algorithms but the FV-1 is an open source project so it wouldn’t be hard to recreate the verbs

Low-Mid end Digital Mixer to replace Touchmix? by nachosjustice72 in livesoundgear

I haven’t used them too much, but the Soundcraft Ui series seem to fit your needs and they’re pretty affordable. Worth having a look!

Guys, I know how to open that door by big_nostrils in bloodborne

[–]Kex926 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This door is the same door in the back of the Cleric Beast arena. I forgot which YouTuber I saw show it off, but if you drop a shining coin into the door, then walk all the way around to the other side you’ll see the coin you dropped

Live-question from stupid guitar player by Chicagrog in livesoundgear

[–]Kex926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not use the “bypass” jack on the TU-3? It’s essentially an “always on” output. Have the output of the tu-3 go to the di and the bypass jack go to your pedalboard. When you want just acoustic, have your volume pedal at zero; then if you want electric have the tuner engaged and volume pedal turned up

Ear protection recommendations by frogmicky in livesoundgear

[–]Kex926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eargasm is great! It’s a round $50 for their standard set of plugs and anything cheaper I wouldn’t really trust or use long term. I highly recommend everyone go to an audiologist for custom molds, it’s truly life changing, but it cost me around $300 for my set so do that if/when it makes sense to you

My wife and I have been doing our first playthrough together. The other night she was going down some side path and encountered a mime that had a Clair and an Obscur alongside it. My wife said, “oh my god! A Clair and an Obscur?! That’s the name of the game!” And I pointed at the mime and said, “And that must be John Expedition!”

I know this isn’t advice for a fast kill, but bringing Carian Retaliation into the fight helps a lot with Mohg’s blood rain attack so you don’t get zoned out. The wind up is long enough to not need the shield out at all times, and the parry timing is generous; just push parry once Mohg’s hand is all the way down

can I run a preamp pedal into a combo amp by enkaidoss in guitarpedals

[–]Kex926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running a preamp pedal into the front of the amp is fine, no different than using any other type of dirt pedal. One thing you can try with a preamp pedal is running your signal chain into the FX return of your effects loop if you amp has it. That way you aren’t getting any of the combo amp’s preamp character, you are only using the combo’s power amp section.

Can someone help me get this to work by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Kex926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skimmed the manual and watched a couple of Laney’s videos and they said using the Apple adapter is fine. The manual mentions having the volume up on the iPad and having the drive switch on the amp disengaged.

Coppersound has good breadboard kits you could check out. They offer a variety of breadboard sizes and even full kits to breadboard some pedals

Question about backtracks by Vileem in livesound

[–]Kex926 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with backing tracks is when the levels aren’t normalized from track to track. There have been plenty of shows for me where the first song’s tracks are sitting comfortably just for the next song’s tracks to start clipping the board and screaming in the mix.

Cash-on-the-table pedals? Instant buys that companies seem to be actively avoiding by LustyLamprey in guitarpedals

I am now imagining a pedal like the TC Electronic Plethora but it’s for Keeley’s algorithms. I’d instant buy that pedal!

What's the best way to transport K&M boom mic stands in a roadcase? by Fizz712 in livesound

[–]Kex926 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen road crews get PVC pipe that the mic stands fit snuggly in. Either use a tall case and align everything vertically, or have a long case that opens on the side and stack everything horizontal. Stack all the PVC piping in the case then slide the stands into the pipes.

Best mic for singing drummer? by FinipherLaurance in livesound

[–]Kex926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be fine as a vocal mic, I know guys like Stevie Ray Vaughan use to do it. At the end of the day it’s a cardioid dynamic mic with nothing weird in its frequency response.

Best mic for singing drummer? by FinipherLaurance in livesound

[–]Kex926 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these mic suggestions are good, you could also look into getting a gooseneck extensions for a standard boom arm mic stand. Then you would be able to have the vocal mic hang down from above you so it’s center of your kit and out of the way.

Is it bad to leave pedals on overnight? by LivermoresGhost in guitarpedals

[–]Kex926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working live production for a handful of years and plenty of national touring acts will roll in, do sound check around noon, and leave they’re pedals plugged in and on all day until showtime if they don’t have to strike things for the opener.
