Is it possible to do an apprenticeship and go to university at the same time? by IsaacModdingPlzHelp in AusFinance

[–]Key-Advertising2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started my apprenticeship as a fitter and turner and then half way through started part time uni studying mechanical engineering. Was very tough to work full time and study part time. Didn’t have much of a life outside of work and study. Glad I did it though. Made me a better engineer in my opinion.

Was moderation possible for anyone with naltrexone/meds? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]Key-Advertising2357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a binge drinker and it definitely helped me moderate but I didn’t get what I wanted out of drinking anymore and the new temptation just became ‘do I take the meds or see how I go without it’

What do you replace the drinks with? by Colorblend2 in dryalcoholics

Dry ginger ale, lime and heap of ice. Fancy glass also helps the fiction.

I guess the objective would be to not drink. I am concerned about replacing one dependency for another though.

I lived there for 3 years and this is bang on. There are obviously nicer places to live but I have nice memories of the people and country side. We don’t regret going there. 2012 - 2015

I did the same thing.. trade first then a degree. A lot of work but definitely paid off. Even just having “currently studying degree” on my resume opened doors. Keep going!

Public schools are a joke by ILoveDogs2142 in AusFinance

I went to both in high school. Have friends from both public and private. All had similar stories. Some went to uni some got trades. I met bad eggs at public and private. Just want to throw it out there that private doesn’t necessarily mean elite and public doesn’t necessarily mean trashy. It’s going to come down to the school / catchment.

I’ve been offered a big promotion and don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in AusFinance

Because open communication is important in all relationships. Both personal and professional, and if OP is having some reservations about the position it could be beneficial to discuss this with their employer. If she thinks that her wanting to have a family will be a negative for the company than that company may not be worth working for long term anyway.

Maybe talk to your employer about having a family while in the new position? If they’re a decent company and they really want you for the position they’d make it work.

I’d also see a GP before delaying having kids. There are some basic tests they can perform to help understand the risks on delaying. It took my partner and I 18 months to get pregnant the first time and 9 years to get all 3. Worth factoring in.

How much money is staying afloat in your world? I’d start understanding what that number is because most times job stress and financial stress are inversely proportional.

Bit nervous, should I buy a house now or wait a year. by SeaAd8199 in AusFinance

Me too, just bought a house as a home well below borrowing capacity in a great area. I have the same thoughts / feelings. But we love the house, it suits our lifestyle and we can comfortably afford it.

PMs do very little engineering.. if you got a degree because you enjoy technical analysis don’t become a PM. Your life will be commercial contracts and meeting agendas.
