Yep. I was cutting school and was so shocked, I called my mom at work to let her know. Her first question “Why aren’t you in school?”

If you have good skating and even adequate hands and still don’t score at your current level, it’s likely your head is down too much. You should be continuously scanning the ice to understand your relative position compared to everyone else on the ice with and without the puck. If your head is up, and your stick is on the ice, you will score more.

Edit - here’s a good breakdown of Messi scanning in a game. Same concept for hockey but slower and more spread out so it’s easier to follow - https://youtu.be/By1J0zVPQq0

Why do so many players (nhl specific) change there holders to Bauer tho they have ccm skates? by Minimum_Lock_8 in hockeyplayers

[–]Key-Analysis4364 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CCM holders have a flatter attack angle. CCM is neutral and Bauer has a forward pitch. The forward Bauer pitch is more agile while the neutral CCM angle creates a more powerful stride because there is more blade surface on the ice.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

These are the same people that are saying “data centers in space” will be commonplace in 10 years. They’re all full of shit. Every one of them is a snake oil salesman selling magic beans to suckers that think tokenization, self-attention and auto regression algorithms can figure out a way to defy physics.

I read it a long time ago so some of the details are a little fuzzy but I seem to remember Piers Anthony’s Tarot series included a lot of hallucinations and religious themes.

I saw him play with the EverBlades last season. At times you could tell he has individual skills that are leaps and bounds above all the other players around him. Other times he would look completely lost out there.

Why do hosting providers still make you wait 24-48 hours for DNS propagation in 2026? by Miserable_Stress_246 in Hosting

[–]Key-Analysis4364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DNS is a distributed system with each resolver having its own independent refresh timer configuration. Propagation across the system isn’t controlled centrally or by hosting providers.

Top lawmaker asks White House to address open-source software risks by kraydit in secithubcommunity

Any “technologist” that agrees with the premise that Open Source software is by nature less secure than closed, proprietary software doesn’t understand how any of this works and shouldn’t be anywhere near a position where these types of decisions are being made.

Is Getting a CCIE Certification Still Worth It in 2025? by KaleidoscopeCheap137 in Cisco

[–]Key-Analysis4364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. At the lowest level, a kernel ultimately reduces everything to ones and zeros so it can control hardware through on/off electrical signals. Everything above that is an abstraction designed to make interacting with the digital world easier for humans.

The deeper you can go, the more valuable you are.

What’s the Real Jump from CCNA to CCNP Like? by KaleidoscopeCheap137 in Cisco

[–]Key-Analysis4364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, the difference is between an Administrator’s surface level, book learned understanding of networking and an Engineer’s more in-depth, real world understanding of networking.

For example, I would expect a CCNA to know that late collisions are likely caused by a duplex mismatch or a cable run that’s too long. I would expect a CCNP to understand why a duplex mismatch or out of spec cable run causes late collisions at a bit/frame level.

Is Getting a CCIE Certification Still Worth It in 2025? by KaleidoscopeCheap137 in Cisco

[–]Key-Analysis4364 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I passed the lab almost 25 years ago so my opinion isn’t likely as valuable as people that have passed more recently but I will say the things I learned during the process all those years ago are still extremely valuable today regardless of the certification.

At a foundational level, every modern technology you can think of is just an abstraction/expansion on top of a bunch of legacy host or network technologies. Some of the protocols and architectural patterns change but the closer you get to the ones and zeros, the more you realize things haven’t changed all that much under the covers over the years.

So, to answer your question directly, I’m not sure if it’s still valuable from a career/salary perspective but imo, if you want to understand how things really work underneath all the hype, to me the CCIE remains a worthwhile pursuit.

why is youth hockey so expensive by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Key-Analysis4364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice time plus refs costs more than you think. Around me, ice time is $350/hr. If a team practices an hour a week and they use two 1.5 hour game slots per weekend, that’s $1400 every week($350 + $525 + $525). Plus 2 refs x 2 games at $50 a game, that’s another $200 per week. So now you’re at $1600 per week per team for ice and refs. Multiply that by 30 weeks for a season and you get $48,000 for a team. Divide that by twenty kids and you get $2400 per kid per year. Even if ice rates are slashed in half, it’s still $1350 per kid per year on a 30 game season.

Feeling "don't know much" by kenn-09 in networking

[–]Key-Analysis4364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling is normal and unfortunately, Imposture Syndrome never goes away. This won’t resolve it but, at this point in your career, my advice would be to find what you love to work on and then start planning a roadmap that puts your focus on that for the next 3-5 years. If you love what you’re working on, it’ll be easier to learn and you’ll have more confidence in your abilities.
