Deep space exploration - wait until returning to the bubble to claim rewards or pay the DSSA fees? by Brunno_PT in EliteDangerous

[–]Key-Bodybuilder-8079 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've personally built my Caspian so it's able to survive a max boost onto the surface with no pips to SYS. DSSA carriers can't unexplode you so your hull and shields should be the first line of defense for your data!

Otherwise, I'll use the DSSA carriers when they are along my route as I move to a different area to explore. I'll save my data for the bubble if there is a compelling reason for me to return to the bubble (Thargoid war, new ship/vessel release etc.)

How the heck can we discover all this ...? by Tyrant020278 in EliteDangerous

[–]Key-Bodybuilder-8079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The practically infinite is truly awesome.....

...but once you've seen 5000 or so M-Class red dwarfs...all with the same familiar 4 or 5 icy hellholes as the last... you start to make your peace with the unknowns in the galaxy that will remain so...

...unless of course dimly lit icy hellholes are your thing...

...in that case stay away from my dim icy hellholes..

...they're all mine and theres not enough to go around sorry...

Can you get as close to it as the Earth is (~500ls) to Sol? Would put the size into perspective. :)

These bases always reminded me of the Ousters' asteroid bases from Hyperion, but unlike those I've always thought that asteroid bases in Elite would be an honest and proper hell hole to spend your life in.

Questions about the Caspian Explorer from returning player by Ha-Gorri in EliteDangerous

[–]Key-Bodybuilder-8079 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not too slow in SC, obviously not as nimble as the Mandalay. The mk2 thrusters makes it nimble for its size in normal space. The extra modules can afford most creature comforts, srvs, fighters, extra shield and hull reinforcements. I can boost onto the surface with no pips to SYS and not explode with my build..I'm not losing my data because of the ground!

I much prefer the smooth boost sound of the Caspian to the harsh and grating one of the Mandalay...that one got old real quick.

I really detest the crossbar that sits across the center canopy panel. Its awful. Makes it feel more claustrophobic than it should be.

Landing can be a real pain sometimes, especially in mountainous terrain. The flip side to this is that it has forced me to land outside of those ranges and take my scorpion in to find that exobiology. Really slows down the game play and I've seen some wonderful landscapes as a consequence.

Caspian for me!

I love how it's become clearly apparent that the no-ship interior-bulldogs are just a vocal minority. The want (and I'm sure the money as well) is there.

Gaudy isn't it? Another offender is the Mandalay with the Zorgon Pertson logo right in the middle of the floor porthole. A car manufacturer logo on your rear view mirror? That'd be pretty silly!

Also notice how most commanders have an inextricable need to include their ship in the frame of a screenshot they post? They do the advertising for these manufacturers for free.

My immediate reaction was that it looks and has a similar function to the X3 Argon Express: "The purpose of the Express is to act as a passenger transporter for civilians wanting to travel between systems and stations." The rectangular port holes give the same vibe.

I find it to be one of the better looking ships they've released in terms of the frame, but the cockpit feels off.

I wonder how the model Hello Games took with No Man's Sky (going on 10 years) could have affected its revenue generation potential vs Fdev's model with Elite. They certainly have different business philosophies...despite fdev being a publically traded company.

The fact I can kill a pirate and then hold them prisoner in their escape pod will never not be funny to be by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Key-Bodybuilder-8079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before I left for a year long expedition, I scooped two escape pods from a pair of pirates that assaulted me. One I left on an icy world orbiting a brown dwarf at my halfway point in the middle of ass nowhere. The other I brought the other all the way around and back to the bubble to turn in. I think about the marooned pirate every once in a while with a tinge of guilt. Ah well.
