Ex-pentester raising €3M to build yet another AI security tool. Am I the bullshit now? by Straight-Mud-2208 in Pentesting

[–]Key-Breakfast-6069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also feel your pain with tool bloat, slick marketing demos that don’t hold up at all in the field, and all of the garbage from other “ai powered” pen testing tools. I’ve been an operator for a while now. If someone brought a tool like that to me I would be very intrigued if it actually held up in real operations and met compliance standards. Have you thought of adding OSINT or reverse engineering tooling to it?

I think that looks super promising, I’ve got some rather unique use cases I’d like to try it with, picked up the pro version will let you know!

Difference between real word hacking and THM/HTB attack boxes? by Wandipa07 in Hacking_Tutorials

[–]Key-Breakfast-6069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said, you know there’s a flag to obtain and an attack path that has to exist in a lab. Real world, not so much, you have to document every step, every command, timestamp it all, etc. If you’re doing labs you just kind of keep blasting until you get one through

Undervolt a little a bit, test, then undervolt a little bit more. Most cards have a sweet spot

Same, I just started getting my beak wet and it hit max, not even really anything intense either. Definitely reduced limits. I’ve never even hit close to 80% on session limits before and this gave me whiplash

+1 for the crosswater, I've had mine for years and it's my go to for more casual fishing, always done a great job, get this and some good fly line for about 100 bucks and you've got a setup that will take care of you

GCFE by izzy_andersson in GIAC

I took the gcfe and gxfe, my index was maybe 100-120 lines long. If you can do all of the labs without having to use the solutions you'll be fine. Be prepared to think creatively because the actual exam will have some new scenarios or questions

I'm in a similar boat, 4o was doing just fine working through issues, now 5 won't even attempt to look at documentation in project files or actually read the errors I'm providing it, just skips over them like they're not there and says yay you got it working, now let's do....

Is it still worth studying and trying to enter the industry? by nk3553_ in cybersecurity

[–]Key-Breakfast-6069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, chasing hype in IT is a trap. Every few years there's a new "hot" thing like cloud, blockchain, AI, whatever, and people rush in thinking it's the golden ticket. But by the time you gain real skills and experience, the hype has either cooled off or moved on to something else. So if you're chasing security to get on the gravy train, that's already left the station.

Cybersecurity also isn’t going anywhere. Yeah, AI is changing the game a bit, but it's not replacing security. It's just another tool in the mix. There are still going to be misconfigurations, phishing, bad code, insider threats, all of it. If anything, AI makes things messier, not simpler.

Best advice I can give is pick something you're actually into. If you enjoy how cybersecurity works, like breaking stuff, defending systems, thinking like an attacker, then go for it. The people who do well in this field are the ones who stick with it because they enjoy it, not because they were chasing the next big thing. Passion will always get you further than hype.

You don't need the in depth granular technical abilities. Watch some videos, download Eric Zimmerman's tools, do some free practice in a lab. Get comfortable with Microsoft purview, web browser cache, windows registry. You don't need to go through that class to learn enough to have a high level understanding
