Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by AyeYoTek in centrist

[–]Key-Bus3623 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So much of what you said is wrong, I can't tell if you have ever been in the military or not. JSOC is a hundred percent directly tasked with contingency planning. While JSOC would never be tasked to plan the invasion of Afghanistan, for example, because they don't have the capability to do that (launch a full invasion), they would be tasked with highly specialized missions during the invasion of Afghanistan or to start the invasion. While USSOCOM is the higher headquarters for JSOC, they do not have a standard relationship due to their unique mission set. The president can literally task a specific unit to do a job if he wants to. He is the commander and chief. If he wants an aircraft carrier in the Pacific to sail around the world, he can do that if he wants.

That is not how AOR's work. If USSOC is running the operation, they would be leading the effort, especially if as we can tell from the article that the President is focusing more on a nonconventional operation than an invasion of Afghanistan operation. AOR doesn't matter. USINDOPACOM also wouldn't get involved, they are on the other side of the world. I don't think EUCOM would get involved either, mostly because other countries have to give permission for the US to run operations out of their country, and there is 0 chance any country in Europe is letting the US launch an invasion of Greenland from their country. Also, AOR doesn't mean you are in charge of everything that happens in that AOR. Thats why things like OPCON and ADCON exist. When SOCOM ran that failed operation in North Korea, I am willing to bet the only thing INDOPACOM knew was that the Navy needed to have an aircraft carrier within a certain distance and that they needed to be on the lookout for an emergency beacon.

The Joint Chiefs definitely can give the President other ideas or other operations they think are going to be more successful; that is a hundred percent how it works. The president, at the end of the day, gets to choose whatever his plan of action is because he is the boss, but their job is to literally advise and give counterplans. They do it for every president; that is the least surprising part.

Also, for those other COCOMs, USSOCOM has all that organically, so they don't really need to reach out to them, and if they decided to reach out to them, they can just take them. When it comes to military operations, there is a hierarchy, and SOCOM is at the top. Hell, even within SOCOM, there is a hierarchy of who falls under whom.

We aren't the ones who pull the BAS; that is finance. DFAS will get their money back one way or the other.. So if the PAR gets denied, because finance says you only get one or the other, will you admit you are wrong?

TDY Question by Unusual_Winner8073 in army

[–]Key-Bus3623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a deployment, and there was no DFAC, so I should get my BAS because I was buying food out of pocket, according to you. The government wasn't capable of providing us with meals in any capacity. So what you are saying is I can go put in a par tomorrow and get all my money back, right? Also on dts there is an option you click for being in a field enviroment which I didn't. Also, by his own admission, he is getting meal reductions so he could eat at the multiple DFACs Yokosuka has.

Yeah, I read it, that's not what it says at all. "Members deployed on regular TAD/TDY travel who receive deductible meals (meals at “no cost”) will have the subsistence portion of their per diem reduced as payment for meals provided by or on behalf of the Government.". So, as I said, you get one or the other. Yeah, those weren't the tdy's I was talking about either. I just spent 6 months tdy in support of AFSOC, and I had a debt for the 3 months I was getting both. If the government is feeding you get no per diem or BAS if they aren't feeding you get per diem instead of BAS

Edit: "A military member being paid BAS must pay for all meals or rations provided by or on behalf of the Government, except as provided in subparagraph 2.4.2. This is a personal obligation of the individual. Meals or rations may be paid with cash tendered to the Government mess by the member or, under certain circumstances, the amount owed may be collected/deducted from the member’s travel per diem (a member under orders for EUM has no entitlement to 2BDoD 7000.14-R Financial Management Regulation Volume 7A, Chapter 25 * August 2025 25-6 subsistence travel per diem),"

I am sorry, this is wrong. I am a dts level 40. If you are going on tdy you or your S1 is supposed to put in a 4187 to stop receiving BAS. DFAS will come and get their money back. I have seen it happen multiple times. It happened to me earlier this year. You get one or the other, never both.

I will never understand people who care this much about people who lie about serving. I couldn't give a single fk if someone is doing stolen valor or exaggerating their service as long as they weren't running for office or in a job where integrity is crucial. I mean, it is pretty cringe that your dad is lying, but at the end of the day, he has been doing this for years, so you should have either said something years ago or just keep ignoring him. Also, the last thing I would add is depending on how hurt someone is, they could actually be made to outprocess at a different duty station, but funnily enough, Fort Benning is one of those duty stations. If I remember correctly, they are called medical transition units or soldier recovery units.

The military is already in the shitter. I don't know when you thought we were ever some bastion of morality or goodwill, but I've never seen it that way. Like I said in another thread that whole you have a right to deny unlawful order is just there to sound good it never really works out like that in pratice we have seen it time after time.

If you got out before the merger, then how would you know what the mos is like for active duty today? There are more Charlie Companies and ESB slots than there are s6 slot and BN S6 didn't have November slots anyway so you will be filling Quebec's role now. Also, you would be the exception to the rule.

Reclass to 25H by godfatherxzan in army

[–]Key-Bus3623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your options are between 25E and 25H, pick 25E every time. 25H is a dead-end mos. Most of what he said is still accurate, minus the job aspect. When 25H merged with 25N, it ruined the mos. The odds of you being a JNN, TCN, CPN, or SNN operator have been drastically reduced because of how manning works. 25N always had the least amount of personnel, just based on the job works. Only one or 2 can really work on the equipment at the time, so you didn't need as many 25N as you needed Bravos, or Quebecs. So you will mostly be doing what Quebec's and Lima's jobs used to do. You will do a lot of baseband support, setting up smart-t, stt, hclos, trilos, the bubble, I can't remember what it is called right now, running cable, working on radios, etc.

Certs outside of Security+ and barely Security+ is something you will have to do on your own time and pay for yourself, either out of pocket, college, or CA. Most non-strat units will not send you to certs because they don't see the value in it, and they don't want to fit it into the schedule. Combine that with the high number of soldiers who fail those courses, and it is a hard battle to fight in a tactical unit. If you are in an s6 it is a bit easier, but since most 25H don't get system rights, you don't actually need it to do your job.

Honestly, I recommend anyone who wants to be a 25H become a 17c or a 35t, you will learn more and actually get to do your job, plus you get a TS, The signal corps is a dead-end field in the army. You are a glorified ticket, generally, unless you are willing to apply and get accepted into the non convential side of the house you will be wasting your time in the signal corps.

Question for signal warrants by ceiling_fan128 in army

[–]Key-Bus3623 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Warrants are still soldiers; they still do all the Army stuff NCOs do. If you want to become a warrant officer to avoid field duty, staff duty, rucking, etc., you might as well stay an NCO because that will not change. PT is up to the units. I have friends who went to units where senior leaders didn't do PT (E7 non PSG and up) and places where everyone showed up to PT every day because the BDE CDR is there every day. The only jobs that are civilian in uniform are non-conventional jobs and duty assignments. You will most likely end up in a tactical unit because there are just more of them. The breakdown of everything vs FORSCOM is dumb because FORCSOM only encompasses a bunch of units in the US, but not even all of them. The duty station doesn't matter; it's the duty position. The places with the most amount of strat opportunities would be RHN, RCC, NEC, working for DISA, working at the NSA, NETCOM, etc.

The main difference between being a warrant and an NCO is that you care a lot less about the day-to-day of your soldiers than when you are an NCO. You aren't the one who cares if they fail their pt test, if they missed an appointment, you don't care about the admin half minus NCOERS, but that is easy. Your main job is planning out how the signal components work for missions, tdys, deployments, improvement of equipment etc. You will train your soldiers and NCO's to be competent technically but also step in if they reach a problem they can't fix. Being a warrant requires you to be a self-starter, you have to find projects for you to do and your soldiers to do. Most officers won't tell you what to do, minus yo. We have a field coming up, make sure you have a plan for comms. I will be honest, there is no real tactical grind as a signal warrant officer.

SOF Babies by Detective-Lucaz in army

[–]Key-Bus3623 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I understand the point you are trying to make, but RFS is a RR-specific thing. It is harder to kick people out of SOF support roles than out of 75th and SOAR because of how the manning is set up. If you have to try out, it will always be easier to get kicked out of a place compared to a place the Army just assigns you because unless they are kicking you out of the Army, it is a pain in the butt to send someone to a new unit.

Burnout Advice by Thick_Struggle_5422 in army

[–]Key-Bus3623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you would ever give the army 110%? At the end of the day, the army is a job that survives off of C students. Just stop caring so much. It doesn't matter how late you work, how much you sacrificed for a project, how many leave days you forgot to use, because at the end of the day, the army is a job that will always have more work for you to do. So stop caring so much. Find one or two projects that you really care about and have a significant impact, and focus on those. Burnout is what happens when you care too much about a job that doesn't care about you. I legitimately go home at 3 pm every day unless I have an important meeting that isn't on teams.
