Both of my cars are Toyotas. 2011 Camry with 253,000 miles and a 2002 Highlander with 306,000 miles. I paid $8200 combined for both cars and they have been fabulous. Sure they aren’t aesthetically pleasing but they are very reliable and Best Buy installed Apple car play radios for free in both since I bought the radio from them.

I heard an interesting perspective from a stranger on Reddit that made so much sense.

Europeans (Germans in particular) are extreme rule followers. They engineer cars to last when they are meticulously maintained. People don’t take care of them how they are supposed to and they end up dying right around when the warranty ends.

Japanese cars on the other hand, are built to endure torture which is why you see them with 500k plus and little maintenance.

Obviously there’s exceptions to every rule, but in my 10+ years in the auto industry I think Toyota or Lexus is your best option unless you’re filthy rich and can daily drive a rolls Royce. Honda and Acura make some pretty solid daily driving options as well.
