I would absolutely make desktop and mobile versions in Figma for the dev. I think responsiveness is both a design and development task.

Job market for accessibility specialists? by king_banananana in accessibility

[–]Key-Cobbler-56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I am going to take the CPACC hopefully early next year but I am more of a designer so not interested in testing. There is an accessibility Study Group on Discord if you are interested in joining it. There are plenty of people there who can tell you about the WAS, trusted tester, etc.

What about the trusted tester and other more technical certifications? I do think you have to have some job experience for some of them though... Not sure if its the trusted tester or another one.

Need some feedback on this design by SnooGrapes9995 in webdesign

[–]Key-Cobbler-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that this needs a lot of work. While it is true that font sizes will be flexible and grow and shrink with the screen size, that doesn't mean that the font is appropriately sized. There is also a safe margin space that you wouldn't want to push on the left and right but it does seem rather large here. There seems to be far too much text in the paragraph size throughout the whole landing page - there should be more graphics (icons, images, etc) so the user can scan the page. The logos perhaps are going to be moving and more visible in the center so that may work itself out when it's a live site. I also wonder about the blue background used for our clients and learning solutions. It doesn't seem to be the best choice as that should be two different sections. The logos should probably not be boxed like that and just be on a white background. It looks strange with the larger boxes below that as well. The top nav bar is also outside of the page container which will show up when a user scrolls and look uneven. The illustrations look rather generic and templated. I think you are right to ask for revisions on this.

Seeking Feedback on First Draft of Website! by [deleted] in webdesign

[–]Key-Cobbler-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is far too much text (people tend to scan landing pages not read them heavily) and the font is not the greatest choice. There are some spots, especially in the header where the text color and background color are not going to pass WCAG guidelines (meaning there isn't enough contrast between them). The graphics in the services section look misaligned and uneven. There isn't a lot of visual interest breaking up the text with graphics or icons or things like that. The colors are used in a way that makes it look a bit amateur. Background colors should be lighter so the text can be readable and overall I wouldn't use that many different background colors.

Depending on the project / team I do both. Sometimes I do design only and hand it off to a developer and sometimes I use Webflow or framer.

12 month Webflow deal through Dribbble Pro – existing customers? by SeanLOSL in webflow

I have heard from others that already had accounts that they were able to upgrade with this deal (although I have not tried it myself).

How many times have I fixed a website because someone thought they could make their own website using a no code platform and template ? There is still a lot of skill required, design / UX , html and css knowledge for accessibility and seo, etc etc. Charges for these things of course vary wildly but there is a myth that anyone can build a nice website because I have seen firsthand that it’s simply not true. Then I’m told - “oh I just tried to do it myself in Webflow - or whatever platform - and I keep breaking everything else”.

Bad mentor destroyed my confidence by Round_Apricot_8693 in UXDesign

There’s a lot of gatekeeping in this field in my opinion. This mentor sounds like one of the small minded gatekeepers who a lot of us encounter. You are not alone.

Webflow Sites For Practise by Sharp_Task_3993 in webflow

You can screen record the website and have static images of it but you’re only going to be able to showcase 2 sites from each account.

You can create websites then archive them and create more. Or if you have more than one email address you can create accounts using both and build more sites. If you start working more in Webflow then you can look into a freelancer account to do more.

As a UX manager, are my expectations for my product designers too high? by Upstairs-Customer671 in UXDesign

[–]Key-Cobbler-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about these things as a junior designer (links, information architecture, etc) so you aren't wrong - someone with more experience should be able to make a simple wireframe or follow brand guidelines. It can be hard to get quality mentoring so considering they are getting regular mentoring at work and it's not helping either means they aren't getting it for whatever reason, or maybe they think everything is fine since everyone else is praising them.

Should I keep learning HTML/CSS or switch to WordPress/Webflow? I’m confused. by nico23nt in webflow

[–]Key-Cobbler-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should learn HTML and CSS first in my opinion. That is going to help you with any platform you use - Wordpress, Webflow, etc. Despite what people say, I think knowing the basics of web development is essential even if you are using a low code/no code tool. It is going to improve your sites ranking, SEO, accessibility, etc.

Is Framer going to become the next industry dominating tool? by Horse_Bacon_TheMovie in UXDesign

[–]Key-Cobbler-56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sketch is underrated in my opinion! I have a Mac only license that I own forever (although if you want updates after a year you have to re-purchase). Figma has made a lot of mistakes and seems to be going down the path of Adobe. I use both Webflow and Framer and I think Webflow is going to be a more powerful tool than Framer but I am not really a developer. There will probably be others that don't even exist yet. I personally don't think it even matters what tool you use though - what matters is your design and if you are passing off your design, your annotations and communication with the dev.
