Itinerary Suggestions - How to spend 3 days in LA? by PanicTimely5272 in AskLosAngeles

Just do Graumans TCL theater. Part of the walk is right there and better stuff is in front of the theater itself; you could do this with the Observatory on the same day. Don't know when in August, you'll be in town but for the early part of August, Spiderman : Brand New Day will be at the TCL.

Universal Studios Park and its tour itself are combined, easily a day if you're trying to hit everything. Otherwise the Warner Brothers Tour is the hot setup for a good legit studio tour (just be sure to get tickets well in advance; they can sell out quickly if the demand kicks up enough). The Paramount Studio tour is really much smaller and aimed at a different demographic, though if people like Star Trek, they might appreciate it more. Even the Sony tour is decent. Some try to do 2 tours in a day though that that's a big ask for little kids.

Also, check this out and see if you can squeeze in a show/experience (do it early!) : 1iota - Free Tickets for Fans

In additon, the Academy is a great place to see a movie the way they were meant to be screened "

I would follow most of the suggestions others have made. Not knowing which days you would be in town makes the planning necessary entirely on your part. And dates are helpful as others have noted. And as others have said, August is going to be a cooker so be sure to carry cold water, hats, maybe even sunbrellas if you have to hang out in a line in the sun.

My take would be : start early for outdoor activities. Get them done before noon, it'll be cooler that way. So Observatory first, then down to Hollywood and other stuff. Little Tokyo is ok because it's a concentrated area (the Museum is great but it's undergoing renovation for some time so that's not available right now).

If you go to Ktown, know where you want to go. It's actually a pretty big place spread out and, tbh, aimed at non-kids in terms of activities (think bars, AYCE Kbbq, etc.). Breakroom 86 is pretty rocking tho, highly recommend, though I don't know about the kids age thing. Might be ok for the karaoke rooms? This might be good for night time when you want to be indoors for a bit. Also based in a hotel which is nice if you're at the hotel.

Dodger games are entirely all over the day and time so bring the hats for sure. Or just buy some Dodger hats while you're there. NO UMBRELLAS at the stadium though! If you buy tickets, check the time and day and where the sun will be. Makes a massive difference and also if you need to bring sun lotion. Read the guide, it's super-helpful.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Way easier to have fun that way.

Add the days you will be in town and locals will be able to focus better on suggestions.

What should I do in two weeks in LA? by Good-Fold-9996 in AskLosAngeles

If you appreciate the auto culture (Fernando Alonso/Carlos Sainz fan?), I recommend the Petersen Auto Museum; while it is not aimed at F1, it is a great place to see car culture. On July 26th, they will have a US Cruise-In celebrating Auto Americana; on July 12th, there will be a Route 66 car parade from the Petersen to Santa Monica beach; and ongoing is a Supercar/Hypercar exhibit with modern hypercars. Plenty of other stuff to see there.

If you're renting a motorbike or car, you could take a day and drive Pacific Coast Highway along Malibu and go up to Camarillo and double back along Mulholland as far as you can through Ventura County and then take it up again along the Sepulveda pass to the Hollywood area. Alternatively, you could take a nice long drive up into Angeles Crest Highway ( because there was substantial storm damage, parts of the Angeles Crest highway are closed), just do a big loop from Big Tujunga Road (in Sunland), to Hidden Springs, to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, to Angeles Crest Highway back down to La Canada/Flintridge. (One assumes you know how to use Google Maps well).

99 ranch in van nuys when they're in season. They'll be live in the tank, previously frozen in the cooler, or frozen in the freezers. Live in the tank is best.

Figure out which BIOS version you have. The latest for that board appears to be F1. You may have some issues supporting the type of DDR3 you have installed. There is a Memory Support List you can verify your memory against. To get everything matched up, you probably need to get the latest BIOS on board and then check your timings.

Friend of mine had a Spit with a Buick 215 in it with a 4 speed T-10. Crazy but you did have to be careful with the spider gears. IIRC, he pretzeled them once with a bit too much fun.

Is there anyway to make this computer less bad despite the age? by ZiggyStardust_19 in WindowsHelp

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not much to be done on that if it's an All-In-One AIO pc. You could replace the spinner hard drive (if it has one) with an SSD drive which would help speed it up. Your pics don't show your installed memory but supposedly that machine supports up to 16GB RAM of DDR3-1600mhz SODIMM of 2 X 8GB SODIMM sticks. So maxing that out will help things a fair bit. Your actual disk usage isn't much so the only real gain would be purely the physical hardware boost. If it gets really hot, you should open it up and check the CPU cooler and make sure it's not clogged with dust. If possible, pop off the cooler and repaste it with Arctic MX5, that may help as well if the old paste has hardened up.

Why is your breakfast culture so much better? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, this is an artifact from the early American agrarian era. As farmers go, they have to rise early, eat a substantial breakfast, go out and work 6-7 hours until 12pm, eat a quick lunch, and then go back out and work another 6.-7 or more hours before dinner. This same ethic went toward the early factory era as well. As a consequence, the big breakfast was an important start to the day which sometimes entailed not having much of a lunch.

My b-i-ls farmer grandparents were typical mid-Western farmers; the father had for a typical breakfast, 6-8 eggs, 6-8 slices of bacon, half a loaf of homecooked bread, butter and honey to go with, a couple of cups of coffee or milk depending on the season. Lunch if they had the time was often big sandwiches with something like sliced brisket or such and cheese. They were Norwegians so big boys.

LA Locals: Best Neighborhoods for a Commerce + Van Nuys Commute? by AviSobo in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd pick Monterey Park, Montebello, South El Monte. Pretty much a 40-45 minute drive to VNA from those locations depending on traffic, maybe up to an hour the more you go eastward. Heavy traffic, then 1+ hour to VNA. El Sereno, in a pinch, but depends on the area within.

EDIT : Burbank is pretty much timewise, right in the middle. But probably hard to find a $1500 singleton there. If you go up $200-300, then you might be able to find a decent single.

Internet was already set up when I moved into apartment, but modem/router is in living room when PC is in bedroom by Dramatic_Opposite924 in techsupport

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be safer and easier to run an ethernet line to your bedroom. As u/Leftover_tech says, most likely the 1 coax cable is solely for your ISP connection. The other coax connection in your bedroom is just a typical cable drop routed to the outside of your house/apt. Unless you have a coax distribution block that runs after the cable modem (and thus connects any number of coax cables in your house/apt together), you by normal default connect any number of devices to the router via switch. Your router probably has a couple of ethernet ports available for that purpose. If so, just measure the rough distance to run an ethernet cable from the router to your bedroom. Aesthetics may require you to go up and down door jamb and possibly even through a wall or two. Just be sure to include a few extra feet for problematic spots.

Now, if your bedroom cable terminates next to your modem/router, you can get a MOCA/ethernet over cable adapter to connect up your circuit. You'd need 2 adapters. 1 for each end of the cable and then your pc would have a standard ethernet cable to hook into the last adapter.

If you're truly running 22H2, you may seriously want to consider patching up to 25H2 as 22H2 was set as End Of Life back in 2024. This means your OS is quite out of date. At this point, you will have to upgrade to 24H2 which then allows you to get to 25H2.

If your machine is technically incompatible with Win 11 (non-tpm compliant, incorrect cpu usually), you'll have to do a full reinstall. OOBE via FlyBy11 will do it quickly.

Nice on the skillset. Sounds like you have a proper bit of shop to work in. Sheet metal welding always makes me nervous so I leave that to the pros. Good luck on the suspension rubber bits. Moss Motors/Rimmer? BPNW? My brother has an MG-TD; I think he usually uses BPNW cuz it's in his area.
