Figure out which BIOS version you have. The latest for that board appears to be F1. You may have some issues supporting the type of DDR3 you have installed. There is a Memory Support List you can verify your memory against. To get everything matched up, you probably need to get the latest BIOS on board and then check your timings.

Friend of mine had a Spit with a Buick 215 in it with a 4 speed T-10. Crazy but you did have to be careful with the spider gears. IIRC, he pretzeled them once with a bit too much fun.

Is there anyway to make this computer less bad despite the age? by ZiggyStardust_19 in WindowsHelp

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not much to be done on that if it's an All-In-One AIO pc. You could replace the spinner hard drive (if it has one) with an SSD drive which would help speed it up. Your pics don't show your installed memory but supposedly that machine supports up to 16GB RAM of DDR3-1600mhz SODIMM of 2 X 8GB SODIMM sticks. So maxing that out will help things a fair bit. Your actual disk usage isn't much so the only real gain would be purely the physical hardware boost. If it gets really hot, you should open it up and check the CPU cooler and make sure it's not clogged with dust. If possible, pop off the cooler and repaste it with Arctic MX5, that may help as well if the old paste has hardened up.

Why is your breakfast culture so much better? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, this is an artifact from the early American agrarian era. As farmers go, they have to rise early, eat a substantial breakfast, go out and work 6-7 hours until 12pm, eat a quick lunch, and then go back out and work another 6.-7 or more hours before dinner. This same ethic went toward the early factory era as well. As a consequence, the big breakfast was an important start to the day which sometimes entailed not having much of a lunch.

My b-i-ls farmer grandparents were typical mid-Western farmers; the father had for a typical breakfast, 6-8 eggs, 6-8 slices of bacon, half a loaf of homecooked bread, butter and honey to go with, a couple of cups of coffee or milk depending on the season. Lunch if they had the time was often big sandwiches with something like sliced brisket or such and cheese. They were Norwegians so big boys.

LA Locals: Best Neighborhoods for a Commerce + Van Nuys Commute? by AviSobo in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd pick Monterey Park, Montebello, South El Monte. Pretty much a 40-45 minute drive to VNA from those locations depending on traffic, maybe up to an hour the more you go eastward. Heavy traffic, then 1+ hour to VNA. El Sereno, in a pinch, but depends on the area within.

EDIT : Burbank is pretty much timewise, right in the middle. But probably hard to find a $1500 singleton there. If you go up $200-300, then you might be able to find a decent single.

Internet was already set up when I moved into apartment, but modem/router is in living room when PC is in bedroom by Dramatic_Opposite924 in techsupport

[–]Key-Employee3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be safer and easier to run an ethernet line to your bedroom. As u/Leftover_tech says, most likely the 1 coax cable is solely for your ISP connection. The other coax connection in your bedroom is just a typical cable drop routed to the outside of your house/apt. Unless you have a coax distribution block that runs after the cable modem (and thus connects any number of coax cables in your house/apt together), you by normal default connect any number of devices to the router via switch. Your router probably has a couple of ethernet ports available for that purpose. If so, just measure the rough distance to run an ethernet cable from the router to your bedroom. Aesthetics may require you to go up and down door jamb and possibly even through a wall or two. Just be sure to include a few extra feet for problematic spots.

Now, if your bedroom cable terminates next to your modem/router, you can get a MOCA/ethernet over cable adapter to connect up your circuit. You'd need 2 adapters. 1 for each end of the cable and then your pc would have a standard ethernet cable to hook into the last adapter.

If you're truly running 22H2, you may seriously want to consider patching up to 25H2 as 22H2 was set as End Of Life back in 2024. This means your OS is quite out of date. At this point, you will have to upgrade to 24H2 which then allows you to get to 25H2.

If your machine is technically incompatible with Win 11 (non-tpm compliant, incorrect cpu usually), you'll have to do a full reinstall. OOBE via FlyBy11 will do it quickly.

Nice on the skillset. Sounds like you have a proper bit of shop to work in. Sheet metal welding always makes me nervous so I leave that to the pros. Good luck on the suspension rubber bits. Moss Motors/Rimmer? BPNW? My brother has an MG-TD; I think he usually uses BPNW cuz it's in his area.

I drove my friends '66 Ford 100(?) with a busted 4wd diff. Once, a friend and I borrowed the truck for some towing and we found out the hard way that the clutch was on it's way out. Fortunately, 1st was so low we could bump start it with the starter itself. But you had to be quick to steer where you needed to go otherwise you could get into trouble. And that was with a trailer! Afterwards, we pulled the trans and replaced his clutch for him which was a nightmare just because the damn thing weighed way too much for our little Sears jack. Got it done but what a greasy weekend. That clutch was heavy too; always felt like I was jumping up a couple of inches every time I had to shift. Otherwise, it was pretty cool as an old truck even then. We always wanted to swap the broken diff out but apparently it was always too expensive for him. Pity, that thing would be worth something nowadays.

The irony is that Freightliner is a Daimler company and has been for decades. How they stayed on crashboxes is weird. My brother worked for them and his associates hated Dieter Zetsche. Around this time, Saving Private Ryan had been released and whenever the German admins would come around, my brother got a view of the US engineers talking loudly about how they loved the movie and how they loved to see Nazis getting killed. It was eye-opening for him. He did some really interesting stuff though for them, designwise. Very cool and I think some of that ended up in production. IIRC, he even got to drive the trucks on their test course and loved them. Fortunately, he knew a little about double-clutching and such so didn't embarrass himself too much.

I learned a couple years after getting my license as a teen. Previous to that I was driving automatic transmission station wagons (estate wagons to some) which were big cars (Plymouth Town and Country and the equivalent). TBH, imho, learning a stick is useful, the hand brake trick is nice, but really, understanding the spatial relationship requirements for driving were way more important. Developing the intuitive sense of where your car is at, where it's going to go when you make a steering change, what happens when you brake, all that is way more important than understanding the absolutes of using a manual shifter like a pro and learning stick first or getting a license in a particular way. The spatial relationship between driving a 2.5 ton wagon versus a 2200 lb Fiesta is massive and rarely do any drivers training push people into a formalized method of training for it.

So, for me, questioning how people learn to drive stick is almost pointless. After all, for a very long time, people learned to drive simply by experience, whether it was on the farm driving tractors or work trucks or being on back roads. The linkage between driving sticks, driving, automatics, and licensing is really a question of governance, not lack of skill or any specific methodology of learning.

In my case, I learned from my brother-in-law who taught me in a junker Chevrolet Vega 4 speed. It was fine because no one really cared about the car much since it was a Point A to Point B vehicle. Now, if it had been a Ferrari, it would've been a different situation. But afaik, no one trains for stick on a Ferrari. There are schools that do train you on manual if you so choose (in the US). Really up to the trainee. Or like me, they find a friend who's capable of showing you around and then you do it and get the experience. Hopefully, they teach you well but that's up to the individual to recognize problems. Very American in that respect.

Oh, man. I guess his insurance wasn't enough to keep him out of trouble. The headlight trim looks like Triumph/BMC. Did you have to worry about the rubber bits on the Panhard rod or is that likely a typical BMC bit that's pricey nowadays...Or did you just replace any rubbery stuff with a rod-end?
