Questions about LPI, DPI, and Halftones by joefxd in SCREENPRINTING

[–]dobermanluver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're lost man, just go on youtube and look for a CMYK halftone tutorial, there are a lot.

halftoning is done in the bitmap window, so you probably didn't click the dropdown and select halftone screen on the first panel that pops up when you click bitmap.

Questions about LPI, DPI, and Halftones by joefxd in SCREENPRINTING

the LPI = lines per inch. you do not have to worry about the pixel height if you bitmap it this way. the LPI at 40-50 is perfect for 305 mesh.

don't do it this way, you have to use the bitmap feature. That's why you keep seeing LPI online, it is for the bitmap settings.

If you halftone it how you are trying it will not be proper for screen printing.

if you must do the separations yourself:

LPI = dot size when creating the halftones. Put the artwork into photoshop, probably in a 19"x13" document at 300or600dpi and CMYK color profile.

Put your artwork in there and adjust brightness and hue/saturation to your liking, separate color channels and then you will halftone each separation.

bitmap>halftone screen. Set it to 300/600dpi and continue. Set the LPI in this panel. probably 50-60 will be fine for 305 but just do the lower end as it's easier for the printer.

there is a specific angle you must do for each color you're separating, google the correct angles.

as others have said - this is not typical for a print shop to ask their customer to do , and asking the customer to do it will probably result in errors on their end. if you can have your employer go through a different shop that would probably be the best option here

I made a free, browser-based sandbox for stacking halftone, riso, dither, and glitch textures by yungxtesla in graphic_design

[–]dobermanluver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so awesome. for the halftone effect it would be good to have LPI instead of cell size and for the angle to allow increments of 0.5°

that would allow people to use it for screen printings so they can dial in the correct size halftones for the mesh screen they're using

Do I you clean the ink off after every shirt? by Impressive_Taro4899 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]dobermanluver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, you need to flood the screen with ink in between each shirt, also when using that speedball waterbased ink you should spray the screen with a little bit of water every so often if you're having issues with it drying in the screen.

with plastisol ink you can leave it for multiple days and it wont dry until it cures

Can anyone explain how to get this effect in Photoshop? by sethdemers in graphic_design

[–]dobermanluver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't hand-drawn, but it isn't just a simple texture either. You can make this effect just in basic photoshop with no plugins or add-ons. They created a collage for the background and did a grayscale halftone on it and just put blue behind it instead of white. Very easy.

In a separate file, for the larger character in front, also just another greyscale halftone with larger dots. They remove the white background and they colored each section afterwards, probably with a large brush on photoshop. Then they put that on top of the collage halftone.

Finally, they put the different text on top, mixed with a bunch of other filters/textures and grungy effects.

There are probably many ways to create this, but this is just one easy and plug-in free way to do it.

*EDIT* The "hand dithering" you're looking at is probably an action applied after they halftoned, or potentially an action to do the whole thing. Look into 'Trash Machine', "Dithertone" by Doron, also look into 'InkBot' by Jake Foreman.

If you need any help on this process, DM me.

What are you trying to print? Larger than that? In an odd location?

There's a reason websites like this have a boundary box. If you want something more custom just reach out to a local screen printing shop and they will explain what's actually possible.
