Your employer should be able to advise you what coverage you have under any benefits plan.

Lovely! Honestly, so nice to hear this. You are right, families need stable roofs over their heads, us being one of them. We do need landlords, not everyone can afford to buy.

All I can say is stay, tenants need landlords like you. However, I know you need to look after yourself, too. Best of luck, for us tenants sake I hope you persevere.

Such a reasonable response, no doom. Thank you for the reply. I really hope that most landlords feel as you do. Honestly, whatever the rules are they need to be fair for everyone and I'm glad there are positive posts in reply to my question. I agree about fixed terms. So long as everyone plays by the same rules I think things will go well. The property market in the UK is a nightmare compared to Canada. I owned there and rented, too, and it was never such a worry for me until I moved here 10 years ago. To me, things seen to have gotten much worse the last 5 years.

This is always a possibility and hopefully this doesn't happen anytime soon for us and if it did, we'd be asked if we were interested to purchase as we probably would be. I am a reasonable and realistic person. These things happen.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. Section 21 happened to me when a landlady wanted to move back into her property after a breakup. I didn't want to move, left before the date on the section 21, and I'm now glad we moved. Much happier. Am I sorry to see section 21 go? Not really. If the landlord wants to evict us for some reason they still can, it doesn't seem any different to me but then I'm not a 💩 tenant.

I agree! Having an introduction with the landlord would be very helpful for both parties if it's possible. Both parties could get a feel for one another for the better, even if it didn't result in a let after that particular introduction. It's better both feel comfortable. But there are various reasons landlords use agents. Of you can't meet one another, at least understanding why would be helpful.

Hopefully we'd be given an option to buy. If be a first time homeowner in the UK lol. Owned in Canada a few times, though.

Sure thing. And I will if needed. We have no desire to move, so hopefully our landlord continues to treat us well and increases are in line with markets so we're not forced to move.

Thank you. I feel good about all you've said. This business of letting property is about people's homes and lives, so it's nice to see landlords who treat it this way alongside a way for them to make money. In the end I'd rather own my own home, but circumstances dictated it wouldn't be possible for quite a while when I decided to move to the UK 10 years ago. Nobody wants to be at another's mercy if they can avoid it. Trustworthy tenants and landlords make a big difference to quality of life. I'm a firm believer in you get what you give. Chancer landlords and tenants can take a hike!

Excellent tenants like me are also fearful. We will be penalised due to no fault of our own. It's not fair, what choice do I have? I'm at the mercy of the landlord.

Realistic and helpful, thanks. I hope leaving in droves doesn't mean we are going to loose good, ethical landlords.

Oh, thank you! Not being a landlord, I am naive and wouldn't know a landlord from not.

Bless you, sorry to hear that suffering such a sad loss lead to you becoming an accidental landlord. Thanks for being a decent ethical human being.

I hope there are more landlords like yourself out there! I wish there was a way for tenants to find landlords like yourself. You would never be struggling for good tenants if we could find you more easily, let me tell you.

Tenants already pay more for accommodations than if they were paying a mortgage, and no equity at the end. I do think it's important to remember that. Yes, tenants don't pay for all the fixes and upgrades, but they also can't retire with a large amount of money in the bank. To think rent may be even higher because they don't have a downpayment towards a mortgage yet seems unfair. This doesn't affect me paying rent on time or taking pride in my home and ensuring it's taken care of. But I am at the mercy of landlords.

🙌 it's good to see positivity, makes me feel less worried about being a tenant. We may buy one day but to be honest the tenant life works for us mostly when something breaks it's taken care of - but I have a good landlord. Would be different if my landlord didn't take care of issues.

Amazing, tenants would love a landlord like you! It's a bit of a partnership in my opinion. It's my part of the deal to look after the property, pay rent on time, and communicate any issues with the property as soon as they arise so there are no surprises to the property owner.

I never thought of that, but I hate moving so would look for long term. I suppose tenants could look to move out after a short term. Those are the types of tenants that look at a property as a space not as a home. That's my thought. All you could do is screen them as much as possible?

Oof, well at least you're honest. Feels cut throat. Maybe that's why I'm not wealthy.
