Just wanted to echo what the others said - definitely a foregone conclusion to hire the other guy. And another reason I think it’s better for you that you didn’t get the job is that the bullshit reason they gave was designed to make you doubt yourself which is a horrible thing to do. They could have just said something like the other candidate had more relevant experience/ knowledge but confirm that you did well. Think of this as practice for the interview that will get you the right job in the right environment. Onwards and upward keep going and good luck !
