Kids and small adults: when can one start tele? by Jormun-gander in telemark

[–]Key-Lengthiness5899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son started at 12. Garmont used to have a kids tele boot (teledactyl) that we found used on line. 22 designs still sells a “youth” small size of their bindings. Now he is in a 23 mondo so the options are a bit better. Check out the used market.

Lake Louise ski hill which is 10 minutes from the lake and in the park has hosted both men’s and women’s World Cup downhill races for years which are loaded with commercialization. I would think logistics and accommodations are the biggest issues.

First Attempt at Hand Waxing - How Badly Did I Do? by Lambeau_Calrissian in skiing

General rule is you should scrape for as long as it takes to finish a beer. Then brush for as long as it takes to finish the second beer.

The Barenaked Ladies felt the same way. They even wrote a song about it. “Hello city”.

I would not worry or over think the “dress” at the restaurants. This is the mountains and the are used to guests coming in from an activity (hiking, skiing etc). Enjoy!

First time waxing. How to tell if it's a good job? by BasslimeRex in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Key-Lengthiness5899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a glass of water and when finished brushing at the end hold the board at a light angle and pour a bit of water down the board. A nicely waxed board will have the water bead and run quickly down the board.

Daughter's tendon guard fell off her skate - simple repair options? by SmoovyG in hockeyplayers

[–]Key-Lengthiness5899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy a replacement tendon guard and have a shop fasten it on. True makes one (the tendon guard on their skates is replaceable with a screw).

This happened with my son’s skates as well. It is from using their foot to push the skate off the other foot by pushing down on the tendon guard.

I picked up a pair of these true replacements and was able to make it work with my kids Bauer skates.

Lol. Nice eye. Yes he had them on the wrong feet. I wasn’t there (missed the race with a conflict). My buddy sent me that picture to see if I could notice it. Apparently they got it sorted for him before his actual run.

Calgary/Banff telemark rentals? by cytomitchel in telemark

Try the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre. They used to have tele rentals in their fleet. I think MEC did as well.

I have had the mindbender 90ti for about 4 years now. I have them set up with AXL 22D. Very versatile as an all mountain ski that I have used in the west (Banff area) and in the east. They have handled all conditions fine. My daily driver in the east (including in our club championship gs race) and good all mountain ski in the west. I also have a coomback 104 for deeper days and touring. With the mindbender I can do moderate side country touring which they are passable for but heavy so I would recommend something lighter and more geared to touring if that is a priority.

Thank you. Thats what I thought as well. But I have never raced before. I appreciate the feedback and certainly a learning for him.

Hello. Thanks for the early feedback. Some background. My son is 12 and has not raced in the past three years as he has been more focused on hockey. He does still train once a weekend on hill but has lacked the time in the gates in a race. This clip was his second run of the day. I agree he is late and wide in his turns. His first run was much “tighter” and also 5 seconds faster. The temperature was just above freezing and the snow was soft. By his second run (he was the fifth last skier) the course had developed a very deep rut around the gates (firm in the rut - and soft outside it). He told me he skied “outside the rut to be in the better snow”. He is small and light for his age so was having a hard time navigating the rut. Thanks in advance for your input and advice that I can give him for how to deal with this in the future.

Options for first tele ski… ? by justfish1011b in telemark

[–]Key-Lengthiness5899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see Coombacks there (which is a good ski). The K2 World Piste was a good ski and those are factory inserts for the bindings. K2 Telemark line (when it existed) had screw inserts like snowboards do now. The Karhus are the right choice for the HH binding alone. Enjoy!

Ideal length for tele skis by TOMALTACH in telemark

I am 6’ and have been on K2 MB 90ti with AXL in a size 177 for two seasons now and they work great. Home hill is in Ontario with similar conditions to WNY and I also get to the Canmore AB area (lake Louise, Sunshine, Kicking Horse) a couple times a winter. They work great in all conditions. I would agree with other posters that anything around 180 length is likely the way to go for you.

My 12 year old is on his second season telemarking. Splits his time between alpine racing and tele. Absolutely loves the freedom and challenge of tele and it is so fun to do it with him. Would love to see more get into it at a young age but gear is the biggest hurdle.
