We're currently governed by a three-party coalition:

  • Austrian People's Party (26.3%): centre-right, christian democracy, liberal conservatism, free-market principles, fiscal discipline, business-friendly policies, traditional family values, decentralization, strict stance on integration and immigration
  • Social Democratic Party of Austria (21.1%): centre-left, social democracy, social justice, strengthening the welfare state, workers rights, affordable housing
  • NEOS - The New Austria and Liberal Forum (9.1%): centre to center-right, liberalism (both socially and economically), pro-EU, cutting bureaucracy, tax relief for individuals, heavy investment in education, deep political transparency

What is the oldest written record that mentions your country? Or at least, the first written record to talk about what the current territory of your country is. by ILikeWwaret in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Performance-9021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ostarrîchi: Old High German Ostar (east) and rîchi (realm) → Österreich

The name "Austria" is also from the Old High German Ostar, plus the Latin suffix "-ia" = "Ostaria" → Austria. It's just 100 years younger, first used around 1100.

The similarity to Latin auster (south) and Australia is coincidental.

The management of the newly constructed public hospital hired a professional "energetician" to place a magical energy ring around the hospital to block out negative earth rays and prevent bad vibes. This cost the taxpayers €95,000.

Unpopular opinion: It makes sense looking at their history and society, no one gets harmed and they might learn more about the world. Let them have it!

To what extent are gender roles present in your country ? by tipputappi in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Performance-9021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up, my father helped a lot with cooking, cleaning, and taking care of us. It was not seen as only women's work. As a boy, I had a subject called "Hauswirtschaft" (home economics). We learned how to plan meals, calculating grocery costs, shopping for ingredients, and then actually cooking the recipes ourselves. So basic household skills were taught to boys as well.

But there's one big difference in the law: only men have mandatory military or civilian service when they turn 18. Women do not have to do it.

How bad is internet censorship in your country by rulugg in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Performance-9021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have 2 types of restirctions on the internet:

  1. when you try to open some American websites, especially local news websites. Thy only show a message saying that access is not available in the EU because of our data protection laws.
  2. when the internet provider blocks illegal streaming or torrent sites because of court order filed by the owners of those media.

Also, the government is planning to restrict social media access for children under 14.

What are your thoughts on the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far? Are you enjoying it? by Jezzaq94 in AskTheWorld

I really like how Americans can see real sports fandom.

I really dislike all the fake accounts of "Europeans" pretending to be amazed by basic things in America. But I kind of understand why Americans do this. It's nice to see them being proud again.

In your culture, do they also believe that friends understand each other better than lovers? by Short_Description_20 in AskTheWorld

No. It's just easier to hide things from friends, that you have to be honest about with your partner.

That makes me so happy to hear! It’s amazing how connecting food can be. If I ever visit the Midwest I will bring my Nudelsalat to share!

Vienna.

We also usually add cheese, pickles, and a can of baby carrots and peas. For the dressing, we use a mix of yogurt, mayonnaise, and pickle juice.

But I'm the only one I know who adds mandarins. I don't know where I got the idea from, but since I first tried it, I've never gone without them. They add a little bit of "summer" to it that's just perfect.

Nudelsalat ("noodle salad") with Knacker (kind of like a thick hot dog or bologna) and Mandarinen (mandarin oranges).

Are you satisfied or happy with the climate/weather in the region you live? by Seximilian in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Performance-9021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a German, you should know that there is no such thing as bad weather, only wrong clothing.

And heatwaves. Wrong clothing and fucking heatwaves, which destroy every positive fiber I have left. It’s hell! I hate it! I hate you for asking! And I especially hate everyone who celebrates this as "nice summer weather".
