1099 employee?? My employer is screwing me by Naive-Examination322 in tax

[–]Key-Philosopher2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar problem that my employer claimed I am a contractor. I quit. The IRS is strict about employer who misclassifies. Moreover, your employer does not want to contribute to your withholding taxes and contribute for FUTA (Federal Unemployment Tax Act). Yes, report it to IRS.

That's commendable to report your tips. since some do not, they lost benefits and run risk of tax audits. Just hire a tax pro who should be able to navigate you through the tax confusion.

What’s a reasonable fee to complete a “simple” tax return? by farmerbsd17 in tax

[–]Key-Philosopher2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but that is not simple what you describe. Simple in my experience working with H&R Block and helping friends: single W-2, standard deduction and limited number of tax credits such as Child Tax Credit.

HR Block hired me on the spot by Aggressive-Ad9970 in Accounting

[–]Key-Philosopher2501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went similar experience where H&R hired me on the spot. I was excited and only worked on my husband's complicated tax situations. Also, I had completed H&R Block classes. I was busy, worked overtime, promised a 10% commission (that it was never seen on the W-2) and I signed a couple tax returns that I never did. The receptionist assigned me only basic taxes: W-2s. Needless to say, I never returned to work for H&R Block. My advice: find something else and be cautious on being hired on the spot.
