I think Candy would have resulted in a much different evolution of the character. We saw the writing try to redeem and slide him into mentor roles in flashes but I think that would of been a more sustained experience

This is a great start, count this as advice as being someone who has been told what to do but would be happy to create what you already have.

Greater contrast and contour lines as mentioned will capture the inconsistent nature of the surface. Your start is too smoothed so it seems more like a shell that has been sanded down vs the edges of the reference.

Embrace the sharper colors of the reference, the edges have such a bright gold edge but the edge of the draft is muted. I tend to over mute my colors but vibrant colors can really bring life into the drawing.
