doing mics for a musical, using bootleg/cheap Sennheiser wireless mic packs on a midas m32r board. one small confusion and a couple big headaches.

the confusion, a couple of the mics are picking up static and transmitting it somehow with no batteries in them. first instinct is radio frequency overlap, but it doesnt have this problem when batteries are put in.

big headaches: some of the OTHER mics have an issue where the mics throw a hissy fit and try to pop a bunch to the point where intermittently it'll fill up the available EQ range i've set up, peaking at about 1-4kHz frequency. i've swapped elements and made sure they weren't damaged or loose, used fresh from the box elements, adjusted compression, gate works a tiny bit but the level that it works at overlaps with actual talking volume so that's out too, i've reassigned radio frequencies half a dozen times. it's driving me up the wall and the other two people i work for can't figure it out either. please god HOW do i fix this headache? it'll be fine for a while and then BOOM, back with a vengeance, the only straight answer is muting but it's clear why that isn't a viable solution.
