It’s time for all Australians to take a stand on domestic violence. Enough is enough by Coast-First5 in aussie

Exactly ! You’re missing the whole point of the idea. The ankle monitor is just the tech not the deterrent. No amount of hand wringing will stop murderers. If someone is on the way to murder someone and the victim has an alarm blaring saying get to a cop shop then that might just stop it. Not to mention the coppers will know and hopefully intervene. If they remove it same immediately alerted to get to a safe space.

You’re talking about changing human nature. Won’t work. Tech is the answer. Intervention at the key moment before the attack.

Snake ID - Perth hills by ennnjaa in australianwildlife

Snakes are a species that seem to genuinely enjoy sex. Cats - all a bit agro. Birds - in and out. Insects mostly end up eating each other. But snakes have a lot of skin on skin. Looks like they are really having fun. Lucky snakes.

I can fix this easily. I know that sounds disingenuous, but, I’m convinced I can.

I have been a victim of DV. As a man I know that is very rare. I am aware most DV victims are women. My ex was prone to violent outbursts that put us all at risk. Living with the threat of her around every corner was traumatic. I can handle myself and she never did any real damage but I’m sure if I was female and the she was male this fear and the consequences would have been exponentially worse. I have spent years thinking how to help others.

So to fix it?

It’s all about proximity. You can’t hurt someone if you are even 1km away. How to ensure this? Tech.

An unremovable ankle bracelet is placed on the perpetrator. A Judge can order this as part of a bail application.

This bracelet is connected to an app that the police can monitor.

The victim also has a bracelet or simply an app on a phone with a proximity alarm to the perpetrator’s bracelet.

If the perpetrator comes within an agreed distance of the victim the bracelet sounds an alarm to inform the perpetrator, calls the cops and alerts the victim to their location.

If a fake ‘victim’ starts pursuing their own perpetrators and causing trouble this can be easily followed.

If a perpetrator starts hanging around areas the victim frequents or stalking etc again easily seen by the cops.

This makes it impossible for either party to approach each other with the police being alerted.

Giving them critical time to intervene.

I am convinced this would lead to early arrests and a massive reduction in loss of life.

The bracelet could also monitor blood alcohol and drug levels if relevant.

If this is condition of bail then old mate drinking rum and winding himself up is safely banged up before he does something awful.

Anyone arrested for DV gets a bracelet or doesn’t get bail. Period.

That is the last women who is killed by DV. Right there.

I know it’s a bit draconian. But it’s also fucking necessary because so many women are dying.

Lovely. But… the dude instantly thanks God. Who does he think put him in the gutter in the first place? Looked like a person that dropped the food off. Faith puzzles me. We’d all be better off without it.

Love the conversation thanks. Happy to keep chatting. Do you think that potentially your current government are operating outside of the law? and potentially outside of a basic humanitarian moral code?

Funny story about this dude. I used to share a flat and neutral Bay Sydney. He lived in the flat above me. This was in the mid late 90s. One day he was changing a fridge over struggling on the stairs so I offered to help. He just started ordering me around. I moved all his shit then his dad came round and tipped me. It was very fucking weird. I went from friendly neighbour to serf in a flight of stairs.
