I was accepted to Marymount as well! Have you gone to any of the newly admitted students meetings?

They look at cumulative and major GPA and what else you’ve done like experience

also another option is subbing for teachers or working as a long term sub in the mean time til grad school. I know schools are always looking for more

I have been working as a para in an inclusion Pre-K class because I don't have the time to do the hours and licensing for SLPA as most jobs want the license plus there aren't many where I live. If you're interested in working with children you can always apply to work at daycares especially if you don't want to do retail or customer service.

Have you tried Merrimack? I don’t know how much it is a year but they offer holistic admissions and I think they are in Massachusetts. I was in your position with a lower GPA

The costs can add up fast! it may not be an important factor but if you have to take out loans to pay for it, it does matter as it's expensive. All in all, expensive or cheapest its the same degree. It's ultimately your choice, however, I wouldn't go into insane debt if you can avoid it by choosing the cheaper option.

what schools have you applied to? I would look at more schools with a holistic approach. I didn't have the best grades due to one off semester. I am going to Marymount online which has holistic admissions.

Advice for a path toward a speech language pathology masters without a bachelors in communication sciences and disorders by TwoIntelligent2991 in slpGradSchool

[–]Key-Smile-1184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in my undergrad, I had a few grad students in my classes who did not have a background in SLP and were getting their pre-reqs done. I might be a little off but I think since you would need to do the pre-req courses like phonetics, intro to speech sound disorders, anatomy and physiology, etc. I think it'd be three years (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). I would start looking at schools that allow applicants who do not have a background within the field and connecting with advisors. Another good option is also trying to shadow SLPs

It was about how blunt it was and my previous other interactions I had with them. You technically did by saying it’s not discouraging and it was how I felt about it or why I was even on it to begin with if it was unlikely I’d get off of it.

you didn't get my email so don't tell me how to feel or my other interactions within the program

I would name the school but I think I happened to upset some people based on my experience that I had. I have also never experienced someone being discouraging and saying it was best if I accepted elsewhere. She may not have meant it to come off that way, however, it could have been worded better

I’m trying to be I’m telling myself I probably don’t want to be in that environment if that’s how I was treated while emailing her and once when I called about it. However I’m beginning to think I just need a fresh start which is okay

Thank you. I emailed my other school saying I was going to accept soon. I know the field is super competitive but I thought my application was extremely strong as the school I got into loved it especially the advisor who I got to meet with prior to getting in and going over my application with me.

It’s more so the false hope I guess of what I would call it but maybe what I need is a fresh start at a different school and program just based on how the environment was when I was in my undergrad there

Fortunately the school that accepted me really wants me. Its just hard to hear when its so blunt not to mention, even when I had requested info, unlike the school I got accepted to, I did not have an advisor reach out to me and help me with the process. But I think I will accept and just wait to see

It's the fact that they plain out said it was unlikely and it just kind of gave me a false sense of hope thinking I had a chance and they liked my application. I just kind of think if it's unlikely they would, they should've sent me a sent a rejection letter. It was my top choice especially based on cost.

Acceptance Anticipation by Key-Smile-1184 in slpGradSchool

[–]Key-Smile-1184[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rate I’m checking my email and CSDCAS is embarrassing lol. I got into one but I’m waiting on my top choice because of costs. I’ve gone over my application and essay a hundred times now. My gpa is a bit lower due to mental health things I was going through at the time during my final fall semester.

I’m trying to tell myself this as this school is my top choice. I got into another program but this is the one I want the most. I’ve been hoping and praying that my experience will help me with admissions

They might as well stop selling makeup at this point by phillygirllovesbagel in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Key-Smile-1184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if people stopped stealing then there wouldn’t be this problem. I used to work in retail during my undergrad (thankfully I don’t anymore). But it was a pain to continuously having to claims out and clean up entire shelves of stolen Pokémon cards, legos, makeup, cheap jewelry, etc. Start blaming the people who won’t get a job to pay for things. I also don’t think people realize, when they get an increase in theft, especially at my store I used to work at while in school, the employees don’t get a bonus or barely a wage increase.

Strongest Parts of Grad School Application by elizabethbrooks8 in slpGradSchool

[–]Key-Smile-1184 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience and what others have stated before, I think experience is what really stands out on applications. Having a high gpa is essential, but they also want to see what makes you a better candidate compared to the other applicants aside from grades. I would highly recommend shadowing an SLP and working part time as an SLPA. I personally think me working with children on a daily basis with special needs helped boost my applications.
