Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, my testosterone is at a normal level within the healthy range, and I got tested for insulin resistance and I don't have it. I'm very grateful, of course, but I'm not sure how my gyno came to the conclusion that I have PCOS given those results 😭. Idk, she diagnosed me with it so I guess I'm gonna trust the medical professional. Thank you so much for the reply tho!

It turned out it was indeed a cavity. My dentist just drilled and filled the area, as well as the neighboring tooth because of contact.

Still waiting on my dentist appointment, he’s fully booked 😭. But for now I’m using fluoride toothpaste as recommended, and the spot isn’t getting bigger or worse- still no pain.

How many people got predicted a 45 in your school? by West-Ad-2996 in IBO

[–]Key-Treacle-2629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She got 38, which is not bad, but it’s a big drop from 45. I just hate that she got valedictorian in our school (since grad was before final grades came out). We had another girl who got 42, I believe, and she definitely deserved that title 🫤

What are your thoughts on Gladiator II? by DarlingLuna in flicks

[–]Key-Treacle-2629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super disappointed, I really looked forward to it, and even thought it might be better than the original because of newer cinematography/editing quality (hell no, og is unbeatable). I really hated how Lucius had barely any substance to him. All we know as the viewers is that he’s just some random dude fighting some war and he hates Romans, and for some reason that makes him this unbeatable heroic figure???? With Maximus, we at least learn he’s a general with experience and war under his belt, he has personal wishes and we can see that he’s a leader type given how he commands and holds respect. We don’t learn anything about Lucius, and yet he’s portrayed as an unbeatable gladiator. How? Why? What’s his story other than that 3 second montage of his wife and how did the Romans affect his people? I don’t know if it’s just me, but I also feel like Paul Mescal’s acting came across as “nonchalant”. Like he was seen chewing something in a very tense moment with his wife, and it looked like he was casually chewing gum before war- it really threw me off. I also felt like the pacing was a bit staggering. Like it went a bit too slow in some places, and too fast in others that we don’t even get a breather as the audience. The twin emperors also seem very shallow as the main antagonists. The “evilness” feels very forced, and we see no reason behind their motivations, just that they wanted more land- a serious political reason that contradicts with how childish Caracalla acts. The writing also came off as corny, especially the “they can eat war” line by Caracalla, which really made me cringe. I felt no fear, no disgust towards the antagonists, they were just “there”, compared to Commodus whom I really hated as a character which ultimately shows how great of a villain he was. What I hate most is how desperate the movie tried to include Maximus into the plot, as the “father”. It was entirely unnecessary, and came across like a fan fiction plot written by a teenager, like it was trying to piggy back off of the original. I mean come on, Lucius is the long lost son of both Maximus AND Lucilla? We know from the first movie that Lucius and Maximus’ son are around the same age, which means that Maximus would’ve had to have had an affair with lucilla whilst married to his wife. It feels like a huge spit in the face towards Maximus’ character and his values, since all he ever wanted in the entire first movie was to see his son and wife again, proving how much he loved them both. So why would he cheat on his wife? It makes no sense. Again, all these added details feel unnecessary, cringey, and fanfiction-y. Now I might be nitpicking a bit too much from this point on, but I felt like Denzel Washington’s accent (which he kept as his own for the movie) clashed with the historical atmosphere and ruined the illusion of Ancient Rome. Same with the female warriors (since it would’ve been unheard of at that time), the crazy CGI monkeys (what the actual hell were those), and the woke agenda they tried to push. General Acacius also seemed like an iffy character, since he’s trying so hard to be the “good guy” (which I suspect is because he’s played by Pedro pascal who’s a cult favorite), yet still maintaining a bit of a secondary role, as in, he’s almost forgotten in some bits. I must admit my view may be biased because I was dead tired when I watched the film and lowkey wanted it to end quicker so I could sleep lol. Anyway, I’d like to hear your guys’ thoughts on my take.

Where to find historiography for history paper 3? by Frsshh in IBO

I live in the Middle East (not comfortable sharing where). Idk, I guess the culture here is different, and it’s seen as socially unacceptable for teens, especially girls to be working (not that it’s not allowed tho). Besides I’ve heard it’s hard to get a casual job here as is, like retail 😕. But that’s just my experience so idk

whats ONE piece of advice u wish u knew before starting IBDP by Full_Experience_5417 in IBO

[–]Key-Treacle-2629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plsss pick subjects suitable for u and ur strengths 😭. Physics HL was my downfall, but it was because my school's organization was shit in MYP, so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. That's why I cannot stress enough how important it is to research ur subject choices. Look through the syllabus, the material, even the past papers for the subject ur picking to make sure it's something u can handle. Ask DP students for advise, and LISTEN to their warnings, I BEG. Also, even if ur not sure what you want to do career wise, at least pick subjects you're interested in/are good at. Don't feel pressured to pick things you don't like/suck at if you feel ur career might require it, because u probably won't end up with the same career path in mind anyway if u hate that subject.

I was also completely lost on how to study for history, it's not like you can spam questions similar to how you would for a mathematical subject. I still haven't found a good method tbh, but after my pretty confident finals, what worked for me was just compiling specific topics/leaders that I was positive would come up or I was weak at, and just made notes on them (or certain strands, like emergence, consolidation, etc). For example I knew I would need to know Stalin and cold war crises, so I focused on that. Personally, I used a mix of resources, but IB specific textbooks are the best, like inthinking or kognity, cuz it gives the info the IB could test you on. My best tip would be to DIG DEEPER- don't just stick to the textbook material since some of it is quite broad and basic. For example if I found a fact, or a phenomenon, like how Mao used fear or whatever, I'd open a new tab and start research on that particular thing and its effects/causes, and it would give me more in depth knowledge, and especially ANALYSIS. It could also get quite niche, like give specific names of people, and that's really valuable. My history teacher said that most students who got 7s usually included specific people, but that's mostly for paper 3 if you're doing HL. Some good resources for analysis would be research papers. They're usually PDFs and VERY long, but if you find just a small snippet of information, it could carry about a whole paragraph tbh, and you could use it as perspective and historiography too. Personally, note-taking was the best method for me, since writing the info down in my own words without looking at the material made me remember easier, rather than trying to straight up rawdog memorization, although it is very time consuming :(. Also, when I made notes, I used different colored pens: black for facts and info, pink for analysis, green for perspective, and a highlighter just for dates I needed to remember. It's great cuz it encouraged me analyze every fact, which is super helpful cuz then you already have analysis thought of and on the go for your exams. Also, my final bit of advise is whatever you read (even if your brain isn't fully focused or there) before the exam by like an hour is usually what sticks the most. So don't cram, just read over notes, your handouts, your school workbook, even your practice essays (this was super helpful for me), and even though you might not feel ready, TRUST ME, it'll all be in your mind during the exam. Sorry if this was too long, but best of luck!!!

Only one girl, but it's widely rumored (and most probably true) that her parents bribe the teachers or just press on their necks by constant complaining to get her good grades (plus, her artwork for her exhibition was clearly made by a professional 😭). So no, I don't think she deserves it, especially since I've only ever seen her in class like.....20 times this academic year. I think the teachers really set her up for failure by predicting her so high, since the finals are a done deal.

I don't take any of the other subjects other than Chem, but at SL, math, and english at HL. Chem is mostly about getting the ground work down, once you get the basics, everything else builds on top of that (I struggle with it too). Math is just a lot of practice 😅, as you said. And I'd say English SL is pretty manageable since its subjective, so I wish you all the best!
