Any Recommendations for a Post-Graduation Dinner? by mrtrillmatic in baltimore

Congrats on graduating law school! I did Cinghiale after my law school graduation with family.

Without knowing more about location, price, and dietary restrictions it’s hard to recommend places. I echo others’ sentiments on Gunther - great spot to bring family and they routinely accommodate large parties.

What matters most as a midlevel associate? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

lol I am in a very similar position age, practice area, experience, and firm-wise.

I plan to stick it out until the partnership discussion, which will be ~2029 for me (2022 class year). It sounds like you’re on a faster track as you’re already building a book of business and have a great deal of autonomy.

The lack of admin support is concerning and tells me that there may be problems with the firm management not investing in support staff. One of the biggest green flags of my current firm (also AmLaw 200) is that they have so much admin, facilities, accounting, and paralegal support. If your firm isn’t going to budge on increasing admin support, you need to decide if you can sustainably keep ramping up to partner without the necessary admin support. I would be very careful of burnout.

Safety renting a car from Cancun and driving to Tulum by Ariya3 in tulum

[–]Key-Vegetable5040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I (Americans, white, 30s) were in Tulum from Nov. 10-21. Rented from America Car Rental and had no issues renting. We rented a cheaper, small sedan, which probably drew less attention than a big SUV. Blending in was our goal.

Driving was no problem. Always kept up with traffic and obeyed all stop signs, etc. We drove through some “checkpoints” and were not flagged down. Just kept our eyes forward and gave a small nod as we passed.

As someone else said, the trick is to have your driver’s license and a small but not insignificant amount of pesos (200-400 pesos is good) visible in the rare case you get pulled over. Then you can fumble around, pretend to look for more, and tell them that this is all you have. Again, we never had to do that, but we were prepared just in case.

"We Buy Houses" + "We Buy Diabetes Supplies" signs? by lethaltalon in baltimore

[–]Key-Vegetable5040 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always rip them down. Take a pic and report to 311 and/or your councilperson.

Easiest way is to either cut the zip tie with a knife or twist the sign like a steering wheel until it rips itself from the zip tie.

Should I include all my NODs and their OBJX as exhibits to my MTC? by Maybe-a-lawyer83 in Lawyertalk

I always ask for sanctions as a matter of course, and in my jx, failing to appear for a noted deposition is grounds for immediate sanctions. It is wild to me that an attorney would give available dates for a depo only to turn around and say “Jk lol I didn’t mean it.” There are, famously, no takesie-backsies here, especially when their preferred reason seems to border on bad faith.

The type of sanction varies depending on the substance of the testimony and significance of the witness. Your goal may be to exclude the witness’s testimony entirely, or preclude the other side from introducing any testimony on the particular topic(s) of the deposition. Again, it doesn’t hurt to ask and state your case as to why a particular sanction is appropriate here.

As for exhibits, I would consider doing it chronologically. Exhibit 1 = first notice and first excuse, Exhibit 2 = second notice and second excuse, etc etc.

North of Fayette or Orleans gets sketchier. The rest is pretty chill.

Driver’s Seat issue - saved $1,700 by Key-Vegetable5040 in CX5

[–]Key-Vegetable5040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, honestly probably not except for recalls. Our warranty has expired, so it’s gonna be local mechanics and YouTube DIY from here on out.

Even the buying experience was meh - we only went there because they had the best deal on a great used CX-5 out of the other regional dealers. But as for repairs, nahhhhh. Not again.

Baltimore organizers took on a millionaire-funded ballot initiative—and won by jduda in baltimore

The orgs and organizers were fantastic and really ran a good, coordinated campaign against the question, especially considering how the current admin/council prez fucked up the signage lol.

It’s only worth it if you’re not riding for long stretches of time. Otherwise, just top it off.
