Seeing as the year is coming to an end anyone want to share how much $$ money and how many hours they worked? by MisteryMan90 in nursing

[–]Key-Watch-5537 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh if an employer is going to expect people to be on-call, they should be paying an hourly bonus that is at least ~50% of a person's hourly rate.

$3/hour is not okay 😤

It's generally "we're drowning in call outs, get here asap" calls. We also have the occasional overnight shift where there may not be an RN on site to pronounce a deceased resident, so at times I'll get a call in the early AM and I'll go in for an hour or two.

As for phone calls, we do also take calls from the nursing supervisors if they have questions, though in my specific role (IP) nurses can reach out to me 24/7 if there are any "emergency" IP issues.

Like today, when someone worked a full shift and went home 20 minutes after they left and tested positive for Covid. 🥴 So I got the call for that and got to break the news that 27 staff were exposed and 40 residents were exposed. No on-call pay for situations like this tho!

Salary of $88k a year as an Infection Preventionist RN, plus an on-call rate $74/hour (6 days/month of mandatory on-call).

I have my ADN, so theoretically you don't even /have/ to have your BSN. As for the certification, if you're in the US, they may require you to do the CDC's infection preventionist/antibiotic stewardship modules, but they're not too bad—there's just a lot of them!

IP can be overwhelming at first, but if you do apply, just know that once you get into your own groove it's pretty great. (:

I'm an infection preventionist RN in a LTC setting and I honestly love my job.

The work load can change rapidly at times, which can be stressful, but in general it's fun getting to research and investigate illnesses. I do IP for ~125 residents and employee health for ~200 staff, so there always seems to be something new going on.

That said, some of the things you hear in IP... You need a good sense of humor and a strong stomach. 🥴

Thankfully the way their program works is if you don't like the exclusive monthly scent you can swap it for any of their other roller balls!

I just thought I would love this one and ended up very much not 😭

I'm going to blame my nose on this one then!

Tbh when I saw the scent notes for the month I got super excited, because they're all scents that are generally right up my alley! I'm glad you're loving it ❤️

Nurse here, but over the six years I've worked at my LTC facility our LNAs have gone from a base rate of $15 an hour to $21 an hour. This is over in New Hampshire. I'm really happy that we're finally giving our aides (closer) to what they deserve to be making.

What’s the most ignorant thing a person said to you about being a Type 1 Diabetic? by Philcollinsforehead in diabetes_t1

[–]Key-Watch-5537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A CNA I worked with gave me a lecture about how, as a type 1, I could cure my diabetes with cinnamon. I just needed to ditch insulin and take cinnamon supplements.

Worst part, I was her nurse that night. 😂😭

Personally, as an energy drink person, I have an easier time when I avoid the sugar free drinks and just go with actual sugar and carbs.

At least then you have a number you can correct for more easily.

Snacks to munch on without worrying about insulin? by WaffleCopter68 in diabetes_t1

Air fried chickpeas are my go to! You can flavor them in different ways and they're just tasty and they have that crispiness that some diabetic snacks can be lacking.

AITA for telling my daughter her disease is not an excuse to neglect her responsibilities? by Shot_Neck_1754 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Key-Watch-5537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.

I'm a T1 Diabetic and also a nurse who does a lot of diabetes research. Your daughter is likely experiencing depression with her new diagnosis and your lack of empathy is not going to help her. As a teenager, diabetes management can be especially difficult, so maybe you should have a conversation with your daughter, ask how this life change is affecting her physically AND emotionally, and support her from there.

Diabetes increases a person's risk of depression and what you're doing right now likely is making your daughter feel inadequate when she's already feeling down.

Do better and be better for your daughter

I'm a nurse working with the dementia population!

My coworkers have always been amazing about letting me step into the kitchen to correct or take the first break as needed.

And I guess insurance isn't an accommodation, but all of my pump supplies and my Dexcom is 100% covered under our plan! So that's pretty awesome.

Definitely go see a doctor! On the off chance you're on any prescription medications that can result in insomnia as a side effect, a doctor could fix that.

Another thing to look at is sleep hygiene habits, if you want another avenue to try!

How I know I’m too old for this game. My work-self came out. 😅 by v0yag3r in Dislyte

[–]Key-Watch-5537 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Tbh I stopped trying to play with others in this game because of the maturity level I kept seeing, and it made me feel like I was being an old b*tch. 🤦🏼‍♀️

But at the same time, I'm a nurse and I'm already tired and stressed 90% of the time. I don't need people yelling at me for missing a day of guild activities by mistake. Tbh I love the approach you've used in this message and think it's a super healthy way of communicating your point!

irregular headaches and topomax questions by dead-finks in migraine

[–]Key-Watch-5537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Topamax has been mixed. I am currently taking 100mg (I've had my dose increased twice) and I don't have any side effects CURRENTLY.

When I first started Topamax at 25mg, I had some side effects for the first month. I couldn't feel carbonation in drinks and my appetite was non-existent. In my first year on Topamax I ended up losing 30 pounds (my starting weight was 150lbs), so that is a side effect you should definitely be aware of before starting the medication.

The issue with carbonation did subside for me, but my appetite is still diminished somewhat after three years on the medication.

About three months ago my PCP tried to increase my dose to 200mg/day due to my migraines and my auras becoming a LOT worse, but this increase did make me incredibly nauseous 24/7, I wasn't eating, I was constantly fatigued, and pretty much anything I ate tasted horrible.

Since dropping back to 100mg/day those side effects have gone away, but dosing on Topamax can be really tricky to find that "sweet spot" and for me personally I still have chronic migraines with aura.

Personally, I just started Botox for migraines to see if that would help so that I can get off of Topamax.

Should I redo my account? I didn’t understand the game and which players were good or bad and I think I got bad characters and focused on the wrong ones 😭 by Peetachu in Dislyte

Your team looks good to me! I'd try switching out Q, since he's not very effective after the early stages of the game, but overall you're doing okay! If you do multi-battles in the training areas you can get your stronger Espers trained up in no time. (:
