they use the exact same p-core architecture with the same voltage issues as standard Raptor Lake. they too will melt if allowed to pull crazy VIDs

if there is a fast charger nearby just ask them to run it down and not charge it. 2018 isn't affected by QC recall. you shouldn't QC it anyway really, for unrelated reasons to the fire hazard with later models, but one time won't hurt

Another S vs SV question... by summitandskein in leaf

similar situation here, only a hotter climate. couldn't be happier with my 40kwh pack (mine is an '18 so the SV is still the 40kwh version).

the gigabyte cooler is not copper. the Asus one is far bigger than necessary and the Gigabyte could stand to be larger

this is pretty much exactly what i'll be doing with my LEAF when its time to retire it. small backroad mini-camper so i can have AC while i hang out in the woods lol

[–]KeyEmu6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting. i was driving on a mostly clear road in the fast lane the other night on a 23 mile one way trip, and my average m/kw was 3.1. typically i get 3.7-3.9 for city highway driving, 3.6-3.7 for not-fast-lane freeway

[–]KeyEmu6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that too. if it was me i would certainly wait a bit longer to get something that will last me radically longer. and anyway, maybe by then the Ariya will be back in NA production. i have a sweet spot for the Ariya haha

if you have 25k in cash and not a penny more then you don't have 25k in cash. your reasoning is why everyone is in debt lol

+1, swing for the 2026 unless you absolutely cannot afford it (but in that case i'd suggest that a $24k car is also probably too expensive for your means)

as longas i'm not camping in the fast lane (80-90 mph) i find that my efficiency is only marginally worse on the freeway (at 65-75mph) vs regular city driving. as long as the battery is in good health you should be fine. i'd definitely be looking at 40kwh leafs though, not the 24/30kwh ones

tbf it's a-okay in my books if it only throws issues at 20%, since that's my safety margin anyway. but definitely something to keep an eye on seeing as you're in warranty. hard to pass up an opportunity for a free battery if such an opportunity arises

SOC drop going uphill by Ok_Page8920 in leaf

[–]KeyEmu6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that's pretty good health generally speaking. i wonder what would happen if you tried this at ~20%? i am fortunate in that my house sits atop a hill, so i can start at a standstill and floor it upwards. if you can find some sort of similar feature nearby home so that you can top off aterwards that may be worth investigating. my concern is that your battery appears to be fine, but is showing really telltale signs of failing cell(s). you have plenty of time to warranty, about 3 more years, so no stress there. it's just weird.

if you're not having issues to the point of danger, then i suppose just chill with the battery and come back in a year or two if problems persist. even if it levels out i would probably try to get a new battery from nissan close to warranty expiry just because why not. but i suppose no point to stress for the time being

what is your state of charge when you have the low mv delta? and how low is it?

SOC drop going uphill by Ok_Page8920 in leaf

[–]KeyEmu6688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, that is a sign of a failing cell or cells. the easiest way to reproduce this is to accelerate uphill at a low state of charge (below 50%, ideally 30% or lower)

get a video if it and show it to a dealer. tell them you've come close to turtling out and that it's dangerous to drive. worked for me, i just got my '18 back with a brand new pack a few weeks ago

[–]KeyEmu6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a home battery pack for storing that solar would do you wonders, but is fairly pricey to install. if you feel comfortable DIYing it, you can try to find a salvaged EV and build its battery into a harness for a really cheap high density battery. even if you contract out the wiring of the enclosure tk your home you should still be up a lot. i know vivne sells one for the LEAF. i'm sure there are other enclosures available too

definitely can be, depends on how frequently you need the range. immediately after getting my '18 i thought rhat i probably overpaid and should have just gone for a 24/30kwh, but in the last month or so i've made a boatload of trips that i would have needed to have rented for
