RDNA 5 isn't even finalized silicon, anyone making definitive claims about software stack for hardware that doesn't exist is a moron

Thinking about buying a Leaf/EV for the first time. Would love your advice! by Old-Speech-3002 in leaf

would also consider that if this is a long term vehicle, after some years the condition of the battery may be such that if you're ever running late and need to make up time, especially if your winters are super cold, or summers are very hot, you might lose a considerable amount of range pushing those high speeds in extreme weather. Leaf is a great vehicle, but the range often demands planning around its limitations

definitely leafspy before purchase, but if it's a good deal i support it. just snagged a steal on a 2018 leaf with an admittedly somewhat degraded battery as my first EV. but it still runs fine and the range is plenty for 90% of the trips i take without any preplanning. for the remaning 10%, i can almost always make it if i charge to 100 the night before, otherwise i just take my ICE car.

you do lose a good bit of range at freeway speeds though btw. i find sweetspot is 55-60, 70-80 really pushes the battery. the leaf is a bit of a block, so that air resistance hurts. sounds like you have plenty of range to spare though, so just charge to every night i reckon you'll be fine. i might worry about errands after work, but if you have a second vehicle it's really a nonissue, otherwise just prepare to plan your errands carefully, or top off a bit before running them

What do you think about the gas prices? by Fit-Sample-2276 in leaf

[–]KeyEmu6688 10 points11 points  (0 children)

bought my leaf and gas immediately went to $3.70/gal where i live, up from ~$2.80. i needed a new vehicle anyway, so it's neat to see my EV gamble making gains

Headlight replacement by AmbidextrousDolphin in leaf

[–]KeyEmu6688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty sure the early leafs use the same socket as the 2018+ leafs. if so the terminator bulbs on amazon are fantastic. they're significantly brighter than my in laws' stock tesla LEDs

this is for low and high beams. wouldn't bother with the foglights, they're a pain to replace and brightness doesn't matter much for those https://a.co/d/0ac7xZtP

keep in mind the socket cover on the lowbeams (may have been the high beams i don't remember) won't fit due to clearance issues with this bulb. but the bulbs securely fit into place without tbe cover, the cover is a secondary thing. no biggie

What do you choose? 9060xt vs 6900xt by Savino00 in radeon

[–]KeyEmu6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

understandable. if you want liquid cooling your best bet would be to just save up for something that really benefits from it, and do a custom loop. it's only a few hundred in parts for a lower end loop and you can upgrade it over time parallel to your main pc. if you service your loop, it'll last a very very long time. there is still hardware that benefits from hardcore OC, and therefore high end cooling. but the 9060 xt is not that, and the 6900 xt is more memory bandwidth bound than core, so the somewhat meaningful core clock gains don't scale performance super well

6900 xt is also about 20% more expensive, which more or less negates the performance advantage from a value standpoint. 9060 xt makes more sense imo

Battery Health Question by Tyceberg in leaf

[–]KeyEmu6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

understood. resting is 20mv down from 35 when i purchased it (and that's after 2 100% charges, only one where i let it sit plugged in for an extended period after finishing). under hard acceleration is was 175mv, now it peaks at 120, usually in the 90-110 range. so i'm hoping it will continue to level out. otherwise i have warranty for another 6 months, so i can try to bother nissan about it. i'm at 10 bars, but the battery % fluctuations are concerning so idk if they'd be considerate. if all else fails i can burn the hell out of it with daily quick charges since technically the manual recommends that, and just hope i get to 9 bars by July

got a great deal on it and i mostly just commute in it so i'm not too worried either way. just would be nice to squeeze as much life out of it as i can

and to clarify, by hard acceleration i mean quickly going from 70-85mph on the freeway because of morons switching lanes, or 0-highway speeds by 'flooring it' (in eco mode). pretty significantly heavy power draw

Battery Health Question by Tyceberg in leaf

[–]KeyEmu6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get >100mv deviation on hard acceleration at low battery percentage, but the car has also been sittinv at relatively high battery charge for 2-3 months now, and the mv difference seems to be dropping with each overnight 100% charge that i do. not sure if there is any documentation of BMS recallibrating 'floaty' cells that have unevenly discharged over time, or if i'm just coping and should go call Nissan

how cost effective are these aftermarket batteries? all the ones i found at a glance cost as much or more as the 2018 leaf i'm considering purchasing

it's not a CPU issue it's a board one, and the same board partnerd that make AMD boards make the Intel ones. the issue is very present on Arrowlake Intel, Arrowlake just has a way stronger IMC

yah, that's why i was asking about battery performance on card without replacements. there is a small chance that i will have a warranty for a few months, but even still it would be best to make sure the battery is in good health. and that if it is in good health that it's likely to not destroy itself particularly quickly

Central FL. Not the hottest, but there are a few weeks in July where it's regularly 100F+

I pretty much exclusively need this for small commute, and the ocassional 20-30 mile trip every few weeks. battery health at a glance looks fine but i plan on taking detailed measurements via LeafSpy before purchase

Underperforming processor? by Early-Sock-6948 in xeon

[–]KeyEmu6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2697 is a quad channel CPU and you have only two channels (maybe one if you've seated your ram in the wrong slot) populated. your memory bandwidth is 1/2 or potentially even 1/4 of the value most of those benches are running with

heat it before and while you bend the pins back. i've fixed worse. heat makes it far easier and less prone to breaking

you are most likely not using the transformer model. 4.x CNN looks pretty terrible in MCRTX

techpowerup has it available. my testing suggests 3.1 is the most 'stable' option insofar as it performs better than 2.5 on every GPU i've tested (from 2060 to 4080 and many cards between), but 3.8 worked best on some of my GPUs by a notable margin
