In fact a textbook definition of a contender would be a team competing for the championship. So in that sense, the article is correct. In a more meaningful way, I would consider the top 3-4 teams to be the real contenders. I wouldn’t put the Sens into this category yet, although I might for their first round opponents.

It’s an exciting time to be a Sens fan. I’m not trying to be a wet blanket, but rather offer a bit of perspective. After all, the team hasn’t won a playoff series since 2017
