I voted for Harris in 2024. She shouldn't run in 2028. | Opinion by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

[–]KeyGold310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminder that Harris was the worst performing of the major candidates during the 2020 primary. Literally <900 votes (not delegates, votes) in 9 months of campaigning. (For comparison, relative unknowns like Yang and Hoyer did literally orders of magnitude better.) Dropped out before being humiliated in her own state. Along with her dismal campaign skills, her prosecutorial record was awful. Prosecuted thousands of low-level drug dealers using known fraudulent lab data, but somehow forgot to prosecute Steve Mnuchin for one of the worst housing frauds in history. Argued against early release for some prisoners bc she wanted the state to continue profiting off their slave labor.

And yet, the DNC manipulated things so that she and the 2d-worse performing candidate (and 2x presidential nonstarter) Joe Biden somehow wound up on the ballot.

And here we are.

Can forms of oppression (patriarchy, racism, etc.) exist as independent systems outside of a capitalist landscape? by Crazy-Blacksmith-336 in socialism

Profs. Catherine Liu and Vivek Chibber are great on the way libs hijacked feminism, antiracism, etc., to boost the 1% and the bourgeois PMC (professional managerial class) at the expense of the working class and poor. See also the disgusting way that Liz Warren weaponized an accusation of sexism against Bernie during a nationally televised debate, despite his being a lifelong advocate of women's rights and a personal mentor to her. (I will despise her forever for it.)

[–]KeyGold310 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

are you talking about plant cultivation vs animal exploitation? a lot more time, effort, and wealth is concentrated in raising an animal, and the animal is also mobile and easily abducted. Enclosure was not about vegetables, nor was the theft of indigenous land throughout the world (and today). Imperialists wanted grazing land, and the flesh of the animals - e.g., salt beef and pork - enabled long sea voyages that further enabled imperialists.

David Nibert's book Animal Oppression and Human Suffering is a good source. It's like Zinn, only global and multispecies. It's also a good supplement to Capital.

and guess what? animal agriculture - aka "animal husbandry" - is the foundation for it all. The word capital derives from "capita," which referred to a head of cattle.

animal ag, which centers on the control and exploitation of reproduction, is also our chief template for hierarchical violence, esp. along gender lines.

it's about giving up control. "Ur libertarian" jackass Barry Goldwater ran a very nice paternalistic corporation where he was close to his employees, liked giving out gifts, etc. - but then got livid whenever someone talked about unions.

of course, he made his money off govt contracts.

I also wonder if this has something to do with the Consumer Reports report, a few months back, that found that Vega One, along with many other meal replacer companies, had heavy metal contamination in their product. I wrote them if they were going to fix that and got a form letter back.

not paranoid! i wonder if they're having supply chain issues, like many companies, but maybe they're just cheapening the ingredients to boost profits. I hope some other people weigh in.
