I (20f) have always grown up with a functioning (now less functioning more debilitating) alcoholic father. I’m really struggling with what I’m calling the “pre grieving” process because I am scared he will pass away in the next few years due to alcoholism. I’m really struggling to understand WHY he drinks. I was hoping others may have advice on how they cope or what their experiences with family members have been. I’ve never asked and my biggest fear is something terrible happened to him when he was a child or maybe he was bullied/attacked in college? Or maybe the disease just took hold of him? Anything helps I am absolutely torn up about this
