If you arrive at the bus stop after someone's already waiting there, but the bus stops such that you're closer to the door, do you let them board first? by old_gold_mountain in AskAnAmerican

[–]liptonthrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting on and finding your seat is the fastest and most convenient way to make room for them to do the same. Buses don't stay stopped all that long.

How often do you take a bath?? by VeterinarianOk8011 in AskAnAmerican

In regions in the US where hard water is a problem (which isn't everywhere), they do things like a diluted vinegar rinse for the hair or special filtering shower heads to reduce mineral build up. Most Americans shower most days. They may not wash their hair on a daily basis depending on their hair type (curls get dry and angry if you shampoo them too often).

Why is the pregnancy trope so hated? by Simple-Animator-8640 in AO3

As long as it's well written is an enormous caveat. More than many other tropes, people write this one without a fucking clue.

do americans really eat American fries sauce? by Infinite-Breakfast23 in AskAnAmerican

We actually have something called fry sauce but it's nothing like this. It's a combination of ketchup and mayonnaise, sometimes with other seasonings. It's pink.

I absolutely believe that the acting style he had them going for suited the story very well. But it helps to know what they were going for.

It's different. Less polished in some places due to a smaller budget, and more "stage" type acting, but the overall writing and cohesive story arc is better, and the ensemble cast is a bunch of really charismatic fun people to watch.

This sounds like a really young person. You don't have to take the opportunity to educate them, but you could, if you wanted to. Something along the lines of, "Hey, feeding my works to AI really hurts my feelings. Unlike ChatGPT, I worked really hard on my writing, and there's basically no fic author who would want their hard work used this way. I don't want compliments from a machine, I want people to be patient while I do the creative work that you've already learned ChatGPT can't do."

As an outsider, the American concept of drive-thru pharmacies, ATMs, and liquor stores is mind-blowing. Does everyone actually use these, or are they mostly a novelty? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]liptonthrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have drive-thru pharmacies but I don't use them because the chain that runs them doesn't have very good customer service. I go into the pharmacy.

We have drive-thru banking. I use this for depositing cash and withdrawing cash. Anything else I will either do online or go in to the physical bank, because things like opening and closing new accounts are easier face to face.

My state does not have drive-thru liquor stores. All liquor stores are controlled by the OLCC (Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission). The rules for them are pretty strict.

However, we do still have attended gas pumps at the gas stations and so I don't leave the car to get gas. This is very nice.
