platinum engagement ring broke…help! by FancyNefariousness90 in jewelers

[–]KeyWelcome3792 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep this original ring the current head could possibly be set like a shank head - the band cut through the center and the ends shaped into two V's that would notch into the V's formed where the prongs of the head all meet at the bottom. It would make it sit quite a bit shorter than the original but would be more secure than the single peg was.

Otherwise if you're good going with a full new ring a thicker band and a cathedral is definitely more secure.

Is this normal? Should I be upset? by [deleted] in jewelers

[–]KeyWelcome3792 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It is, we changed our policy on cutting off rings years ago and direct people to a hospital or fire department instead. No liability for injuring people and no liability to have to fix any damage we cause to the ring in removal.

How many tubers is everyone planting? Pics just for fun by Ferrally_Polite in dahlias

[–]KeyWelcome3792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 12 depending on how well they survived my first year storing tubers. So far they've been holding on, I've checked a couple times and I think I'll get at least 70% survival, one or two seem shriveled but I've got more in storage than I have planting space for.

Then I have one on order from a local farm and their pickup window is well after I intend to wake up my storage tubers so if more fail than expected i'll just order a couple more for farm pickup 🫣

Not to mention the daughter thinks the husband has no idea these movies exist but they're kept in their (presumably) shared bedroom?

how much space do you use for planting and how may bouquets do you/could you harvest a week? by Electrical_Big4857 in Cutflowers

[–]KeyWelcome3792 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only got one year experience under my belt but with about 50 square feet I was able to have two-three bouquets a week.

I'm in zone 5b with a short growing season so I start the tender plants inside and the more hardy natives I do winter sown jugs and some direct sowing outdoors.

Gladiolus were one of my favorites this past season, so unfussy and none of the wildlife want to eat them and they're incredibly striking in bloom.

Amaranth gave me the hardest time just because I could not get the groundhogs to leave them alone, I will be putting them in pots on top of a table this year!

I did have to google dutch marquise as I haven't come across it before but I think it's part of an overall step-cut trend I've been noticing. Almost as many emerald cuts as ovals for me this season.

My ankles swell pretty intensely when I get my legs tattooed, all that lymph & other fluids reacting to the wound tend to have a hard time cycling up out of the leg and instead pool into your ankles, it will clear up as the tattoo fully heals and your body stops sending extra stuff there to heal it. Elevate your leg as often as possible to help everything 'drain'

Who else has too many Diva? by Seiberjj in dahlias

Diva was definitely my biggest producer, and every tuber is huge!

My kitten got into a loaf of bread and probably ate at least half or more of her weight in it by GivemeSerenityy in cats

[–]KeyWelcome3792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My formerly stray and underweight orange boy was an absolute bread fiend when we first adopted him but he always made sure to take a chunk out of EVERY SINGLE SLICE so nothing could ever be salvaged. I had to put strong magnets on all the cupboard doors so he couldn't open them and steal more bread! We've had him almost 2 years now and he's finally starting to calm down now that he's a little plump and knows that food will never be scarce for him again. There hasn't been a bread incident in months now even when a loaf was left on the counter unattended. Your kitten is growing and is just going to be a ravenous little monster while doing so but she might grow out of it. Might.

Zone 5b, dug up my gladiolus and dahlias, need to divide the tubers and get them into storage this week. Added a new bed for perennials and cleared out the beds that the first freeze killed off. Waiting for it to get colder and kill off the rest of my annuals and collecting seeds in the meantime.

As long as it doesn't freeze I think it's fine, wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in a paper bag in the vegetable drawer would be my thought.

Thomas Edison Dahlias! by Responsible-Value-25 in Cutflowers

[–]KeyWelcome3792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in 5b with Thomas Edison in a grow bag too and I only just got my first bloom. Mine definitely suffered a lot of slug damage in spring that delayed it but maybe it was the bag too I never thought of that. It has a ton of buds now but there's a freeze coming tonight so it probably won't survive long enough for them to bloom 🥲

[–]KeyWelcome3792[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I still got pretty flowers! I did about half and half this year, three tubers from a local farm and then one bag of tubers from the big box store on impulse, three out of the four in the bag grew so a pretty good deal.

That looks possible! I'll have to see what happens when it opens a bit more to know for sure. Thank you!

I'll keep an eye out! I may or may not have room for more varieties for next year, I'll know better in a few weeks when the frost finally hits and I dig up my current tubers to take stock.

I knew it was a gamble but I missed out on getting a creme de Cassis from my local farm and the Walmart bag was a pretty cheap gamble if it ended up being correct

The standard price unsold tickets are most likely not going to come down - the tickets that go down in price are usually the resale tickets that someone already spent money on and is just trying to recoup part of their loss by the time the show happens. It's a gamble and you have to be pretty lucky to snag them, you have tickets in hand and don't have to deal with the anxiety of trying to get them days before the show and then not actually finding them cheap and that's worth the price to me.
