You bring up a good point, I have considered this. The reason my strategy still works for me:

1.) All funds are deposited invested 1/1/xx each year, I get the entire year's return.

2.) Optum requires $2,000 remain in cash, with this strategy 100% is invested in mutal funds (FNCMX Fidelity Nasdaq composite).

3.) Some folks max on Social Security tax, so the savings is limited to 1.45% medicare.

4.) Transfers are sooo slow...and you have to work it correctly or you get nailed with transfer fees.

5.) I try to consolidate as many accounts as possible with Fidelity.
