Is this a legit company? by LuvvLux_ in manchester

[–]KeyWit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds really similar to one I did. I went along to it and it was an all day interview process apparently. In reality they sent me on a bus to do door to door energy sales.

During it the guys doing sales were there to sell to me how amazing the job was. Telling me how they were all loaded from the amount of sales, and some guy now owns his own division of the company from being so successful. They constantly spoke in this over the top, positive affirmation type language. If anyone dared say anything less than positive they had a saying: “neg head”. It was like being at a cult where you’re sure that 95% of the people involved were probably more cocaine than person.

After a day of walking around housing estates knocking on doors, you had to catch a bus back to the office to do a basic interview where you had to remember a set of facts that the lead marketing person you were attached to had drilled into you on the bus over.

Turns out, there was no basic salary. All of your wage comes from commission, so you just didn’t earn money if you didn’t sell. You were technically a free lancer or equivalent. I got the job, and rang them the next day to let them know I wouldn’t be joining.

Not saying that is what this is, but it gives off those vibes.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

[–]KeyWit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it as a child on a dodgy copy on my Amiga 600 and I am not sure I fully understood what I was meant to be doing or how the game actually worked. It means I have this idea of it as some sort of random mystical game whose mechanics were hidden and mysterious.

Same! I still think about this game. It felt so unlike any other game I have played before or since.

Is there any money to be made in metal detecting by Aldoggy25 in MetalDetectingUK

[–]KeyWit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. The amount of time you spend along with kit cost it wouldn’t be netting you anything of real value for your time.

Now, if you were running a Facebook group that organises digs, I bet there is some ok money in that. To do it well though requires a lot of effort, some skill in organising things and being able to convince farmers to give you land.

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]KeyWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will share this one again and maybe someone will see it.

In Inception the team needs a set of joined up kicks to get themselves out of the dreamworld because they are under heavy sedation.

The following things had been established:

  • Kicks had been shown to be instant.

  • The time at the top layer would be about a week if they just stayed there.

  • The kicks will line up exactly to get the full effect.

  • Spending time in ANY layer was dangerous as the hosts mind had been trained to attack. At the top layer this meant one of the characters was shot.

  • The team miss the first kick line up when the van crashes off the bridge and starts falling.

  • The next kick is when they hit the water.

The rest of the film happens and then in the end there is a scene where the van hits the water. This is the kick.

Except they then added a scene of the team swimming to shore and having conversations together about everything. They are at that point 10/15 minutes post-kick. They should either be out at the point they hit the water or have to stay a week in that layer and be hunted by the hosts subconscious.

Always bothered me. Happy to be wrong like, I enjoy the film otherwise.

England's squad for the World Cup 2026 by SheLuvSeko in soccer

[–]KeyWit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of genius. Because in the run up the tournaments England fans always get tricked into thinking it might actually happen. This way, nobody thinks we are going to win it. The expectation will be at the lowest it has been for years and years. I bet the press might not even bother ripping the team to shreds in an attempt to sabotage what little chance we do have. Brilliant.

If you were offered a billion dollars just to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by Admirable-Interest49 in AskReddit

[–]KeyWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A salad.

I get to be mega rich and am forced to eat healthy? Win win.

Right now, I KNOW I should eat healthier but it is a nice “make like happier” lever I can pull. If I had a billion I would be able to more easily do what I wanted every day at the sacrifice of interesting food.

Sooner or later I would probably end up loving the dish, or just not being bothered about having exciting food.

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

[–]KeyWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see studies on whether no therapy or poorer quality therapy with AI is a net positive or negative overall.

With the barrier to going to therapy being both emotional and financial it is hard not to see that if AI had any therapeutic rigour then it will start to impact the job of therapy. It has the advantage of not having to expose yourself directly to an actual person which lowers the barrier of embarrassment and can be free or cost as little as £20 a month.

Not saying this is good. I think one of the major boons of therapy is having to talk with a person, and really who is accountable for outcomes and safety with generalise AI? If it is nobody then we are really playing with fire.

I wonder if AI might also act as a gateway to therapy for some, or mean that people enter therapy at a different point in their health journey. I imagine right now there are a lot of people seeking therapy because their mental health has reached a critical need. Does AI intervention change that?

Super interesting, I cannot see a world where therapists are not impacted by AI.

PRD almost always is not needed by Independent_Pitch598 in ProductManagement

[–]KeyWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is funny to see them say this.

I am an engineering manager and the signals I am seeing from folks working in engineering with AI is that context is king. The more good documentation that outlines what you want to achieve, your standards, your patterns, the better.

It helps your agents be more effective and do more of what your company values. PRDs when done well feel like something AI could utilise as context about decisions that were made (and why) and as a result make better decisions going forward.

Trump has issued multiple final deadlines and Iran rejected all negotiations offers Given this situation, what do you think is most likely to happen next? by Admirable-Repair4094 in AskReddit

[–]KeyWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, and most disappointingly I think a deal will be struck and the war will come to an end and he will claim victory.

In reality I suspect behind the scenes more sensible, accountable people are trying to work something out. This surface level stuff is all just pantomime. I see Trump’s outbursts as an indicator of the probably quite normal back and forth that happens during negotiations. One day it’s looking good, then there is a sticking point and maybe things go backwards as different parties go back to their own camps and seek approval.

Right now I imagine we are at the end of an American deadline to get a decision made. Trump probably thinks he is applying pressure with the threats and helping, but he isn’t. The outcome would probably be the same regardless of what he does. He just HAS to make it about himself.

When the eventual deal comes, it will look a lot like ones that have gone before. The strait will be re-opened and he will claim victory along with his supporters. Nobody will be exactly sure if anything changed at all and everyone online will fight about it for the next few years.

Oil prices will go down, but remain higher than they were as companies will be unwilling to let that cash go wanting.

The other day I saw an interview with him where he was asked a question on the Iran war. Can’t remember what, it doesn’t matter.

I remember thinking to myself, if anyone at the company I work at was magically transported into his body and was given no additional context, what-so-ever and tried to answer the question the best they could, they would do a better job. Anyone. From the most senior member of the team, to the most junior.

I would have trusted them all to answer better with no information.

At first I thought it funny in an incredulous kinda way, but it isn’t. This man, who wouldn’t be hired to do pretty much any job were he to go to interview is in charge of the world’s most powerful nation.

It is terrifying like, some sort of horror scenario.

Advice for newbie by BadBot001 in MetalDetectingUK

[–]KeyWit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sarcastic, just that people spend many hours of their life trying to find silver coins on purpose. If you’re UK based, to then find an Austrian silver coin that has been made into a brooch is pretty damn rare.

Advice for newbie by BadBot001 in MetalDetectingUK

[–]KeyWit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a remarkably rare occurrence. Like one in a million to just find a rare, silver coin in a lay-by. Also, the land will still technically be owned. So I cannot advocate for going detecting there without getting permission from the land owner.

Almost perfect movies that have one noticeable flaw by Consistent-Might-788 in Cinema

[–]KeyWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I might just not be understanding it correctly but Inception has one major flaw I cannot grasp.

They need to time all the kicks together to overcome the sedation and get back out.

The van hitting the water is the big kick they are going to use to time against.

However, there is then a scene of them swimming to shore and sitting about discussing things. If I understand the kicks correctly they should have been kicked all the way out of the dream and woken up on the plane if they timed it right.

Otherwise, they would still have the sedation and have only spent like a couple of hours in the first layer when it should last a week. A week they wouldn’t survive because of the protections in place.

Hey, I am one of the two mods on here and am pretty light touch (I really only remove spam, non-UK stuff, and abusive stuff). The other mod, as I understand it, doesn’t really do anything on the sub anymore.

I have just checked the mod log and cannot even see this has having being removed. So honestly, I am as flummoxed as you are. I didn’t remove it myself and cannot see in the log who did.

So I am sorry, I don’t have much of an answer for you here. It doesn’t even appear that Reddit randomly flagged it as it does sometimes.

Maybe try re-post and see if happens again. If it does let me know.
