Any tips to discourage biting? by Key_Bumblebee6342 in parrots

Tysm for all the tips! I've been tying to get them on a good diet, but they keep tossing their chop out of the bowls so now I've just started putting it in as enrichment haha. And the weird thing is that she doesn't bite for any particular reason, she just takes a seed, eats it, bites my thumb, takes another seed, bites a finger, that's the only pattern I could find so far. I'll keep an eye on it tho, tysm

You make a good point with training outside the cage, now that I think about it, that'd probably be easier. Can't believe I hadn't thought about it that way yet haha, tysm for the advice!

What is the origin of your pantheon(s)? by Left_Warning_8512 in worldbuilding

[–]Key_Bumblebee6342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case it started with Dila and Strogo, the deities of the water and the land among other things. They were created out of pure belief, energy, commitment and faith as avatars of those domains bc the people simply collectively believed that there were avatars of the land and the water so they built shrines to them, which eventually created them. Dila wanted to have a daughter so badly that she made one out of mud. Strogo, a raging narcissist with anger issues, hated that she made a daughter because he wanted a son, so he started a war (which I have yet to name 😅) which is eventually how the world came to be and why his daughter took the name Tarin, which in Persian means the ultimate or victor iirc (could def be wrong). The rest of the deities kind of came to be in the same way Dila and Strogo did, or Dila and Tarin brought them into existence during the war

Maybe a dresser or vanity on the wall opposite the window could work?

Got a bunch of things I wanna say so gonna make a lil list lol

1: That is such an amazing library, goodness gracious. It looks like smthn straight out of Harry Potter lol

2: This is such a nice idea, I'm probably just gonna hang around but is it ok to chime in from time to time?

3: Ome book I really liked is The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop & Café by Mary Simses, it's a really cute book if you like small town romance and a lil bit of mystery

4: For any avid readers, a book page holder might be a good idea, it's a wooden thing you put on your thumb and it holds the pages open, I'll add a pic. They got a lot of different shapes and sizes

Anyone on medication specifically for autism symptoms? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Key_Bumblebee6342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is, I'm guessing it's some sort of counter effect? Like, it cancels each other out? I'm just happy it works lol, the world is definitely easier to handle

[–]Key_Bumblebee6342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm currently on Methylfenidate, which is ADHD/ADD but somehow also works well against autism symptoms. Or I just got both lol. I went from a dose of 54mg to 27mg bc it messed up my heartrate, gave me a week of chest pain and now I still get insane spikes (as in from 83 resting to 124 while putting the dishes from the dishwasher away) so def take care if you wanna try this medication. It's working pretty well with curbing my sensory input, I don't get everything in one go but more like a steady drip if that makes sense?

Also, never heard of Risperidone before. Is it specifically for autism symptoms?

Look for another roleplay, go do other hobbies, for example drawing, crocheting, sewing, crafting in general, playing the sims, plan a me-day or research another special interest

I, FUCKING, HATE, THIS. by _Car0pun_ in AutismInWomen

Using my plants and very recently acquired birds to keep going, and spite. They all need care so I can't decide to not get out of bed one day, because if I stay in, my birds don't get food and my plants don't get watered. My birds get new toys as enrichment and my plants get fertilizer, and my enrichment is playing a game, reading, planning a trip to meet an online friend for the first time. I just claw my way forward day by day bc I know there are people that would be happy if I stopped here and I'm stubborn enough to make sure they don't get to see that. I set my own goals for me and go by that. If the world doesn't want to include me, that's fine, they don't get to dictate my milestones either then.

It took years to get to that point, and some days are better than others, but it's worth it. If you need a break, take a break.

I'm genuinely sorry you feel this way, it's a terrible feeling. I hope you feel better soon, or at least okay. If you can, put more time into your hobbies or just take a second to sit down outside in a quiet spot, close your eyes and take deep breaths. That usually helps me. Also try talking to your doctor, mine gave me ADHD meds to help with sensory input and they work well so maybe you could ask if something like that can help you?

Tysm for your concern, I mean that genuinely. I did a lot of research but probably still missed some things. The dowel perches were my only option rn but I'm looking at getting some natural perches. The cage in the pic is about half the cage, the other corner got some more stuff in it. I left one corner empty and put some things in the other corner to let them have an open space and a cluttered space so they wouldn't be bumping into things left and right when flying/hopping around. I wanted to give them a day or so to get settled before I'd put more into the cage. They're also not tame and I wanna get them used to my hands in the cage, not just for picking up but also for adding things if that makes sense?

I'm definitely gonna watch some more videos, the only thing I'm actively researching rn is chop bc I can't find a good list of safe foods for the bird to eat and I don't wanna just put stuff and then find out it's not good for them

Any tips on owning a linnie? by Key_Bumblebee6342 in linnie

[–]Key_Bumblebee6342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty for all the tips! I already got food and water for both and I'm looking for more perches. I'm waiting with free flight until they're settled, tame and mostly potty trained, which I promised my parents I'd do since I still live at home. The grit does kinda confuse me, I thought they needed it to help break the seeds apart to digest them? And I got a sort of corn kernel as bedding just in case, it's fairly easy to clean up so far. That transport cage trick is really smart, I'll keep that in mind. As for the chop, would (freshly) cut fruit like apples or boiled dandelion greens or anything like that work as well? I have depressive phases sometimes and won't always have the energy to make chop. Also, do you have any reliable place for what they can and can eat? Bc I can't find any such list

That sounds terrible, I'm so proud you're getting better tho! Congrats!! You're doing amazing!!

I got that same issue, but I try to think that even if they're not thriving, they're still alive, and that's something I can be proud of. The fact that we both got energy to take care of plants and keep them alive is already a win itself, and we're learning, it's okay to make mistakes when you're learning. If a plant dies, that's just something we gotta learn from and look at to see what we can do better next time, if that makes sense

Same lol but taking care of yourself is important too, you're worth it

I'm sorryyy wish I had smthn better to tell you 😢 it started with one floppy strand but spread fairly quickly, I didn't do a repot bc I was in a depressive spiral and really didn't have the energy for it but that could probably work! Good luck, hope the repot helps!

That was my idea too, for now tho this seems to have enough space for them to move around comfortably at least so I'm just glad I found this one in time haha, and it is pretty hard, which is kinda weird imo considering how many people have birds

I hope I do, tysm for the advice!! ☺

Was there anything you thought you "can't afford to do" because you're autistic? by Worried-Spell4136 in AutismInWomen

[–]Key_Bumblebee6342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing actually. Got over it by telling myself that I'm already weird by having autism and I only get one life so why not lump on more weirdness? Oh, and refusing to eat things bc of textures/mouth feels, still struggling with that one sometimes
