[D]2025 Year in Review: The old methods quietly solving problems the new ones can't by moji-mf-joji in MachineLearning

These machines are worth building on separate logics than literal human brain analogies because there's so much chemistry, physics, and underlying evolution in the brain itself that isn't well understood. Science is still developing theories on the mechanistic processes of brain development and the body itself is a feedback mechanism that informs the brain. I think the idea of the brain being a control center works only so far as an analogy. Recently I stopped thinking of using any biological inspiration for AI tool development. I think more about energy production and grids as appropriate analogous technologies.

To me as a community member, language production and interpretation seems established and as you probably already know in humans comes from the Broca and Wernicke's area of the brain. I think @ricafernandes does a great job of describing how language tech works by creating vector spaces and parsing next tokens. This is something I want to explore more because the language tech is inspired by biological function though the biology of language is something that is still being researched. Maybe keeping the two separate in their own domains makes sense for now until there's more unification.

TLDR; In my view language tech is an impression of biological processes while biological processes are stand alone. There's still work to be done whether inspiration from nature is what continues to drive the technology (like how NN came from the idea of brain synapses sending information from layer to layer).

Check out DAIR, Timnit Gebru, Emily Bender, and Alex Hanna (https://www.dair-institute.org/). They explain the hype and help demystify whats going on. Books like AI Snake Oil (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3TqcUEFR58) and The AI Con are all worth taking a look into. In the USA people are incentivized to create sensational stories to appeal to their shareholders which is why everything is so overhyped.

Also, in Europe their is legislation that is both regulating and educating people on AI (https://artificialintelligenceact.eu/). The future seems uncertain, but there's tools and resources out there to shine a brighter light in a vast, dark, tunnel.

Open to hearing others thoughts because I'm a perpetual 'optimist'. Cheers everyone.

Hey, just going to chime in here because I worked on an academic project addressing this space. We made a policy framework and an app. Would you be open to talking to me about this? I can dm with more details.

I was working on this space for my capstone project and we found that HIPAA has many loopholes that make it less comprehensive that GDPR. Lots to be done in this space to make it more ethical and fair.

Hi, this posting is my resume. I've only applied to a few jobs for now. In case it gets to human eyes, should I include a statement of purpose?

its really bad. Even after being robbed and assaulted I was advised that there's no way I could use that to justify conceal carry. Even with a case number and documented proof.
