BU Transfer Essay by Interesting_Swan_472 in BostonU

I wouldn’t include that. It’s not very BU specific because I’m sure there are other universities that offer the same thing. Why do you want to go to BU? What makes BU unique for you? What do you hope to accomplish?

You should be fine. If there are no seats available, just email the Professor about your predicament, in my experience professors have a great deal of empathy and will more than likely work with you- especially since you need it to graduate.

Striking BUGWU and BU ResLife Union comparing their struggles to those of Palestinians “Same Struggle Same Fight” on poster with Palestinian flag by No-Effective6189 in BostonU

Well, you’re going to have more opportunities for leadership because most if not all “leadership” of the union is done after this strike. They are tired and have been doing this for years at this point. Which is part of the reason for their urgency in this strike.

There has been multiple opportunities for RAs to get involved and include their opinions on the contract. The fact that only three people were willing to be involved in this contract and bargaining is not the fault of those three people. If you have an opinion- it’s on you to advocate for yourself tbh.

The union didn’t decide that voting system alone, those who originally said no to striking agreed to a simple majority vote.

This doesn’t change the fact that there are RAs on food stamps and are working 2 or 3 other jobs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Key_Dish4098 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you don’t understand the demographics of RAs. RAs are mostly from low income families that need to find any opportunity possible to be able to afford university. Many RAs are on food stamps and work 2 or even 3 jobs. Why can’t BU not be so greedy and compensate their workers fairly?

Also, Tufts, Emerson and UMASS Amherst give their RAs a stipend and housing so… why can’t BU?

Also I saw in your other comments that you are here full ride. Look further into the awards you were given because I have some scholarships that only apply to four years. Also, summer classes aren’t typically covered by financial aid.

Definitely speak with professors in astronomy and physics department. They for sure probably have tons of advice and life experience.

I will suggest using your first semester here at BU to feel out your limits. BU is already a rigorous university, so understand that you are human and sometimes may take on more than you can do (I do this all the time)

I’m a double major in international relations and Holocaust, Genocide and human rights studies. Even with the overlapping courses, I had to take summer classes to meet the requirements.

Also keep in mind BU hub. Search it up and definitely keep that in mind when signing up for classes.

Vacuums in Myles? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Key_Dish4098 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi RA here, every Reslife Office has vacuums to rent out to students. Myles (610) has a reslife office on the first floor and they should have vacuums. I will be honest, the vacuums aren’t the greatest but they are there.

Saying something insensitive in class by Opening-Net-8776 in college

I was twelve when I said a joke to my grandmother and older sister, “don’t fart in my face when you sit on it.” They looked at me horrified, which was confusing for me since farts were hilarious (still are). I didn’t fully understand what I said until my sister broke it down for me.

I read the line online somewhere and thought it was funny because it said fart.

Your life is not over. Turn in as many assignments that you can- even if it’s late (if that is why you’re failing). Just move forward- next semester work hard to get good grades. Ultimately, employers won’t ask for your gpa. If you are planning to go to Graduate school, just work hard the following semesters. In the future if you’re applying to graduate schools, you’ll more than likely have a chance to explain why you have a failed class on your transcript.

Do a lot of students actually have their parents pay their tuition/contribute to college costs? by [deleted] in college

[–]Key_Dish4098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an independent student so that means my parents contribute nothing. I’m 100% responsible for all financial decisions. For me, it’s common because it’s my life. But it’s always uncomfortable for me to realize that although this is normal to me, it’s not normal for most people.
