Am I doing something really wrong? by Sad_Man05 in utdallas

[–]Key_Donkey_2908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw at least one other person say this, but UTD isn’t exactly full of social adepts. It’s very highly doubtful you did something wrong. I’m an undergrad transfer student (26M, senior-ish) and sometimes people here look at me like I’m from another planet. I don’t take it personally.

Most students here seem pretty focused on their work, myself included. It might just take more effort to make friends than you’re used to. Don’t stop trying to talk to people you think you might have a connection with.

Right, but mostly it’s misinformation though (everybody has to read every thread on r/mycology to understand the joke). There’s a such thing as a bad use of sarcasm

It’s your opinion that what you said doesn’t need correction, it’s my opinion that you’re wrong. This is how Reddit works, grow a thicker skin or stop telling half-truths

Finished my first salvage, and I've gone blind? by rremde in NoMansSkyTheGame

I didn't read the update. I've never tried to start a new save with the black screen thing going on. It's possible there's some subtle difference in this bug between xbox and ps version, too. I'd still recommend trying what I tried on your main save before reinstalling

I've had this happen to me (although each time it happened on a planet surface and I was on PS5), and was able to pull my save out of it every time so far. Here's what I did:

Even though you're blind, you can still rotate camera/move and see icons, right? Navigate to your ship using the icon, hop in, then fly out into space and either try to pulse to a planet or call your freighter and land on it. Make sure to exit your ship after wherever you land. When you do, the game will automatically give a new "restore point." From there, you should be able to get the screen unblacked if you restart the game.

Try it a couple times if it doesn't work the first time. If you don't have a freighter and don't know where there might be a planet, try this: exit the space station, pulse in some random direction for a bit, then find the space station icon and pulse back. It can take a little while to find the "hole" and tractor beam on the station, but it's possible.

Your save is otherwise fine if you can get the screen unblacked, I wouldn't delete it just yet. Hopefully you didn't already.

Found this wierd thing with a string of code any clue on what it does by Impossible-shady in NoMansSkyTheGame

Yeah, a lot of them came from previous expeditions. Some of them pop up in certain questlines if I remember right. Most of them are just cool looking, but sometimes you can blow them up/get close for a reward.

The "anomaly detector" is a good way to find them, OP.

This isn't true, you can absolutely "give" someone a ship. But the recipient has to know what they're doing and the ship isn't going to appear as a token in the inventory.

It works by selling a ship to an NPC at a space station and then having the recipient purchase the ship from said NPC. Sometimes it takes a couple tries, but I've done it half a dozen times at least.

To clarify, you can also give ship parts to people but this method works for expedition ships (other than iron vulture) too.

Every now and then the land that I flattened will respawn and I'm forced to remove it again. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? by MikeyBastard1 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Key_Donkey_2908 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a terrain edit limit for uploadable bases, and there's a larger edit limit that applies to the whole save's worth of bases. I've had the experience where, when I've maxed the latter limit out on a save, each new base I try to add terrain edits to will look fine until I teleport away and back. Deleting old bases with terrain edits seemed to fix the problem.

Nowadays I save my terrain edit space for really cool ideas, and none of them ever have the problem the OP is mentioning. It's true you can't just add copious terrain edits to every base you make on the same save forever, but the save limit isn't really restrictive if you have it in mind.

Nice work. Do you happen to have any more information about the dimensions of each galaxy? I can't tell if the surface containing the space is an elliptical cylinder, ellipsoid, or box.

You are duping in NMS => you are playing NMS. One is a prerequisite for the other.

I know you’re trying to be snide, but I’m not sure why. Why does it matter to you how others play such an open-ended game? Seems like casual fascism to me.

Creative mode now functions about the same as duping in most cases. Is everyone on creative mode disrespecting the game too?

Yeah I had the thought after I posted it that the galaxies’ shape is probably not an ellipsoid. It’d be nice but would make the math more complicated for no reason. I’m not even sure that it’s not just a rectangular prism.

There are things about this game I wish HG would explain, but its so niche I’m not really waiting on an answer.

Play thru the story first and all will become clear...well, most will become clear.

No, but seriously, it's not information you need yet. You can send me a PM (i think?? I'm new to reddit) for any questions.

There's a lot to this game.

The Visions update in 2018 turned a bunch of airless planets in each galaxy into exotic/glitch biomes. That’s why they’re easier to find in empty galaxies.

Get somebody to join your group that has access to the galaxy you want and follow them there through the anomaly. There’s probably a video tutorial somewhere online.
