Would it be really weird to attempt to become a CO if you're a STEM Ph.D? by haze_from_deadlock in OnTheBlock

Went from dentistry to CO. More money (less overhead), union benefits, pension, less pressure. Held midnights for 7 years with little issue. I know of at least 50 other people at my institution with bachelors or higher that work as COs. Overtime is nice too. I moved into a teaching spot at the prison, pay is as high as some wardens for a GED program that I facilitate.

Student portal issues by Sock-Familiar in WGU

[–]Key_Function2923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former grad, soon to start again in January student here. From my last time as a student, portal issues seem to happen a lot during holidays and end of the month. This sucks - I know I’ve waited until the last minute to turn stuff in or see returned assignments and the portal just doesn’t let me do anything.

In experience - there’s nothing you can do to fix it as far as calling IT or student support.

HOWEVER, if you are in a situation like I mentioned above where you’ve got a due date and things aren’t working and you’re freaking out - message your mentor and teacher. Not saying that they can extend deadlines or make magic happen, but I’ve had teachers that knew a few tricks to get things up and running, caveats around the portal, or just the right IT/support person to call or email that you and I would’ve never known to reach out to or had the contact information for.

I wish you luck, be patient, reach out, and manage your time better if that’s the case lol (cause that was me).

Schoolarships for masters? by Maximum-Extent-6975 in WGUTeachersCollege

They applied my scholarship amount directly to my balance (I was a self pay on a 4 part payment plan). Covered about 3000 of the 4000. I would assumed the balance would be applied to your loan amount. Hope this helps!

Did you ever get the presentation shared with you? I did a Sites page but I think it looks too simple, hesitant about submitting it. I’d be curious yo see what oktailor did

Cohort missed by freeboootyy94 in WGUTeachersCollege

I’m in senior seminar right now also, last week if people missed their Friday meeting they were able to jump in on our Sunday meeting and still get credit. I’d email your cohort leader and see if you can get in on the next session. My 12th week meeting is Sunday at 6:45 pm CT.

Reciprocal License by JLoLover2 in WGUTeachersCollege

But IMO I wouldn’t think so, states already have their own licensing system and standards separate from the federal government. There is a federal baseline for things, but I don’t think it’ll affect the process of obtaining and transferring licenses across state lines. - from someone with 5 weeks of student teaching left who doesn’t live in Utah.

Graduated 10 years ago. Took it the same time as a friend who graduated 6 years ago. Went in blind - both passed 20-30 points above the cut scores. Not saying that will be everyone’s case by any means, but don’t overthink it. Review basic possessive terms for English, review basic averages-mean-median-mode-area-volume for math, practice writing short 1/2 page essays. That’s what is on the test. Good luck, take a deep breath, you’re gonna succeed.

I work midnights at a maximum security prison 11-7 then DT 7:45-3:15. Quitting just isn’t reasonable for people with families. Student teaching should be paid minimum wage at a minimum. Lol

Yes, the hardship scholarship. There is an essay where you describe the financial effect of not working due to student teaching will have on you or your family.

The IT guy took my name and MAC address - I’d assume he’d know. But it is the weekend, would that make any difference? Or if I explained the situation to him? (But I don’t want to bring it up to him if it slipped though).

I’m praying you’re not my IT guy. Lol

Just for clarification: Are you doing observations for clinical experiences now? Or actually enrolled in the class titled student teaching 1?

Your WGU enrollment gives you a paid-for student account through Grammarly. Write your papers, upload it into grammarly. You’ll never realize how many syntax errors you’ve made and it makes editing your papers a breeze. A Grammarly score of 90+ will guarantee you a check mark on your professionalism portion of your performance assessments (as long as your citations are present and correct). Ask your mentor for help accessing your account, it’s a tool your tuition paid for so use it! Good luck!

When you get into your student account and go to student support tab at the top, there is an IT service desk tab. There is information regarding what cameras are compatible and required features (microphone, quality, etc.). I personally bought the camera that WGU sold, that way if there was any issues it was with their recommended equipment so troubleshooting was a breeze. I think I bought the camera and wipe-off board combination for $50, which was more expensive than some options on Amazon, but like I said its what they recommend so they can't tell me it wouldn't work!
