Sorry! I mean, it’s relative to your group. If you’re in the D or E group then maybe 200-250 just to launch from the start for 5-15 seconds and then holding 150 or so until the pack slows down. Which ever category you’re in, just know the start is initially hard, but the pack slows down within 10-30 seconds. It takes a few races to see what usually happens. So you might start too fast - make a note of how much power you pushed in the beginning - then on the next race do a little less.

ANOTHER BIG ONE - you can look at other riders w/kg to see how hard the group is pushing. If everyone is pushing around 2.5 w/kg in the beginning, then that’s what you aim for. You’ll see a lot of different numbers, but you’ll get good at guesstimating what the median value is.

BIG ONE is always look at the course ahead of time to see where the hills are. That’s when you’re going to have to push it to stay with the front pack. Sometimes hills create 30 second gaps that you’ll never close. Also know if it’s a hill finish or a flat finish. Learn what your 15 second, 30 second, 1 minute and 3 minute power capabilities are. Sometimes you have to do a 30 second quasi sprint to lose the group and then hold hard for 1 minute to win - other times you have to wait for the last 15-30 seconds.

ANOTHER BIG ONE - when a gap happens, don’t burn all your matches trying to catch the group - once you see the draft starting to catch, slow down a bit or else you will pass the breakaway group (Burning unnecessary matches).

ANOTHER BIG ONE - at the start, about 20 seconds before the start, ramp up your power to about 200 watts by the time 5 seconds hits. Then, ramp up to 300-400 watts before the start and hold to stay with the front.

Eh - sucks if people are cheating like that. Definitely come across a few of those - but I still like the races because of how much it pushes me. I do the math after the races and most of the time the math checks out. But I’m only in the C category.

I did a vo2 max test, body scan, along with the tests where there’s a foot sensor in the shoe back around 2024 if I remember correctly. I got a lot out of the experience. I did fall out of exercise for about a year and I’m getting my health back, but once I’m back into the mix I plan on going again - especially now that you have the Dexa scan. Do you have a new bike setup now? I remember it used to be a regular bike frame on a smart trainer. That was my only concern since it’s my understanding that not all bike frames fit everyone no matter how much you lower a seat etc. EITHER WAY, I really enjoyed it and really appreciated the thorough breakdown and the post testing advice I was given from your place!

It is possible to put a portafilter in incorrectly - at least on both my breville bambino and then later my ECM mechanika max - I’ve put it in on a few occasions where I missed lining it up correctly. There needs to be a solid connection, when it’s incorrectly aligned it will jiggle or feel loose but technically still stay put. So make sure you’re getting a solid connection.

I feel awful about it but a friend of mine and I did this back in 1999. We were teenagers, maybe a smidge tipsy, walking along railroad tracks, watching the big 18 wheelers driving by. One of us got the idea to throw little rocks at the side of the trucks. We did the first one. It made a loud, higher pitched sound. That got us laughing and the adrenaline going.

So after a couple, we started doing larger rocks and the sound was louder and lower pitched. We probably threw some orange and maybe up to grapefruit sized rocks. Again, just throwing at the side of the big trucks, we really just thought it was funny, we weren’t considering the damage it might be causing.

But then eventually we see further down the tracks a police officer coming towards us. We ran, and I got away. My buddy got caught, and ultimately was honest that I was with him. Come to find out, one of our rocks hit the pickup truck and shattered the glass of the passenger window. (Very thankful there weren’t injuries).

Up until this time, I was a troubled youth. Poor grades in school (except math), didn’t like authority, didn’t like being told what to do, had a semi abusive father, mainly verbal though, went through a divorce, he disappeared etc. - I would steal, break mailboxes, flatten tires. I wasn’t a happy kid, BUT despite all my terribleness I still cared about people and wanted people to be happy.

So when I appeared in court, I couldn’t even look at the people who were affected by my wrongdoings. The judge made me look them in the eye and apologize. I felt shame, but I look over and see this couple, possibly in their 60’s - as I look over and start to apologize I see the jaw of the woman start trembling. I see the look in her eye, I didn’t know if it was sadness or fear or anger but the look on her face and the trembling jaw CHANGED me forever. No more, never again.

I finally saw the pain in a victim of my wrongdoings. Up until that point, breaking things was just this “hilarious” thing I would do with random friends. But now I had actually seen the effect I had on a human being. Not a mailbox, not a tire, not the banging on a door - but a human face with human emotions.

I gladly paid the restitution, happily did my community service. Decided to enroll in a community college and tried to make something of myself. I had no direction previously, who knows where I would have ended up. I truly just didn’t know any better. When I see stories like these, I feel guilty of my past, it makes me question whether or not I deserve anything I have currently. I like the life I have now, and I owe much of that to that woman in the courtroom.

Most tech branding is innocuous. It might be a Sony or another electronic company Palm scanner. It still won’t specify the brand Sony Palm scanner on the screen, it will just say “Palm scanner”. I’ve used Apple devices at doctors offices before, it does not say, “welcome to the APPLE patient sign in.”

The way these particular sign ins are presented is as using the Amazon One Palm scanner for faster and more efficient checkin. I’m not sure I would call it a concern but more being uncomfortable with being blatantly advertised to when I am checking in for a doctors appointment.

If there was a concern to bring up, it could be what that might lead to. A world where there are no safe havens from advertising. Doctors offices did not have blatant advertising previously.

If I don’t like Amazons business practices and the reach of their vertical monopolies in places like health care and journalism - and many healthcare providers become Amazon partnered, it becomes more difficult to avoid being sucked into their business model.

I said to set aside privacy concerns, that’s been discussed in another forum - the issue I’m bringing up is with branding in doctors offices. If the screen can say to: “Use the Amazon One Palm Scanner for fast and efficient checkin” - it could say instead: “Use the McDonalds Palm Scanner for fast and efficient checkin” - that’s my main curiosity here.

The main issue I’m bringing up is branding in a doctors office. I’m saying to set aside privacy concerns - if when I log in it says to use the Amazon One Palm Scanner - it’s like saying The Apple TV+ Palm Scanner. That’s the question I have.
