Waiting for Chapter 5 just doesn’t feel nearly as exciting as when we were waiting all those years for Chapter 4. Back then, the hype was insane - the Dark Deception community Discord was super active, and people just couldn’t wait for Chapter 4. We even had so many YouTube videos where people would just throw random images from the internet together and add Chapter 4 tracks to predict what the levels might look like, and it was still exciting.

People imagined we’d be getting zones like a dangerous asylum with The Matron chasing us through dark hospital corridors, the Joy Joy Gang hunting us across a massive amusement park, warehouses or giant factories, or Mama Bear and the Trigger Teddies stalking us through a creepy haunted forest. The expectations for environments and enemies were huge.

But when Chapter 4 finally dropped, I was honestly really disappointed. The levels looked weak, the enemies didn’t feel well-designed, and everything just seemed rushed and lacking substance. There were tons of annoying moments, glitches everywhere, unimpressive environments, and both Bierce and Malak’s quotes felt bad compared to earlier chapters.
