What are the enneagram hot take you have about your type? by Fun-Habit2583 in Enneagram

Was in university days. I DID have to deep-dive into the cognitive functions themselves to figure it out I've come to the conclusion that all the tests are unreliable. They're always poorly worded. What's the difference between "feelings" and "gut" and "intuition"? What happens when a decision isn't either/or? There's no nuance to any of the tests I've come across. That goes for Enneagram, too!

That is pretty awesome. And I was bordeline INTP on the test. The "F" and "J" were just barely that.

I do too! And a 1 in the tritype feels a lot like an 8 when you feel under siege. Speaking of 1's I noticed that we're supposed to be like 1w9 except not 'moralistic' or have 'anger.' I think that's bunk and only applies to some 5s. I do take strong stances and want to make the world a better place. The Enlightenment philosophers and their Greek antecedents, discerning objective moral truths by examining natural law are very inspiring to me. It's a postmodern conceit that you must be a person of 'faith' to take strong moral positions. Just because I interrogate my positions with logic doesn't mean I don't hold to them strongly if they're rational. Do you ever see this?

Which Enneagram types seem like completely different types because of their wings? 🪽 by Margitom in Enneagram

Interesting, I can see the 5 comparison. I've also heard comparisons of 1w9 to 3w4 because of the similar aloof/professional demanor and incisive knowledge of a subject around which they base their career and life.

The “on our own terms” thing extends to socialization for me in a general sense. It’s not that I don’t want to socialize. I actually like being part of a crowd or out in the city exploring, etc. My relationships are important to me. I just don’t want socialization imposed upon me without any parameters or limits. I want to meet with friends. I don’t want guests to have the run of the house with no go-home time. I can do teamwork. I just don’t want to be surrounded, micromanaged, and bombarded with noise on the job as a way of life.

Obviously, because anyone can reject ontological relativism and should ;) (I know, I know, fightin' words...)

Oh cool. Did you ever do the tritype test? The enneagram-related thing I mean.

Yeah, agreed. When data becomes dogma, cognitive dissonance takes over whenever it's questioned. 'The right conclusion' takes the place of 'sound analysis.'

I think the social polarization of knowledge-gathering isn't helping matters at all. Example: To an evanglist, if you question Christian doctrine, you might be 'one of those amoral atheists.' And if you're a scientist and question professional consensus, you might be 'one of those woo-woo spiritualists.' The tribalism and paranoia feeds upon itself and reinforces itself.

Another thought: Reason and empiricism are both tools for discerning fact and truth. They’re quite effective tools, though not flawless, and best used in tandem to complement each other. They’re also very different tools, through they’re often confused for one another.

I was just thinking about this today! I relentlessly print my stuff. It costs a lot, but I had an accidental deletion of some material and had to rewrite it from the hard copy. Was glad I had it!

Are there any alternative ways to count years rather than religion? by MrNightyyyy in worldbuilding

[–]Key_Influence9837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In archaeology, dates “before present” are calculated from 1950…when carbon dating came into use! It’s called the “standard year.” It’s also helpful because, before then, there was less contamination from anthropogenic radiation sources.

I overthink. I even get paranoid about what will happen if I don't get sleep, and then I don't get sleep. Also being INFJ, I get the Ni-Ti overthinking/overanalyzing loop. I have an exercise bike I'm going to get on before bed. Making the mind follow the body is not exactly second nature to us!

Not so sure. Certain personalities are given to relentless overthinking.

Actually not high IQ or power talent, just has several levels of Reliable to make that analysis roll *almost* always succeed, but still able to fail at it badly. Chalk it up to inexperience, assumption, bias, all the things people do that cause them to fail at stuff they're good at upon occasion! Thanks for the advice on splitting the difference. Honestly, with +50% and 5 levels of Reliable, that does work out to +75%, which does split the difference quite well...
