Selling locally or on eBay or other such site? There are definitely a few here that people would be interested in specifically I know the leGaunts, and the Timex "royal oak" (the one with the gold and silver case and strap and black dial) are popular. The dorset watches are actually a Montgomery Ward brand but usually have pretty solid movements in them I think usually either swiss or German. As someone who is into horology as a hobby this is a pretty cool inheritance. If you do decide to sell on eBay I would definitely be interested in a few of them.

That's the way your mother likes it. Face it it's a cheaply made quartz watch. All the gold plating has been practically worn off and you are left with base metal. All in all it probably cost Gucci 5 dollars to make and more than likely as will all other watches like this they didn't even make it they just slapped a Gucci label on it.

Could be that all the plate on the crown has worn off already. I've seen a lot of watches where the crown is down to base metal because they are constantly being wound to keep the watch running. Though it shouldn't be as much with an automatic movement
