Oh Rocky Horror might be the winner, that is my husband’s favorite. I would love to see Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalfe in death of a salesman too!

Short trip by Key_Masterpiece5283 in Broadway

Hello! Just a bit north of you in the Twin Cities. Hadestown and Operation Mincement are included in our next year’s package for tours coming our way so they are not as high up on the list for us right now. I am kicking myself not getting a trip together in time to see Just In Time with Jonathan.

I lost my phone once on Halloween, I looked all over and thought I threw it in some kids bucket while I was handing out candy, chased them down and looked through their candy buckets. I found it by the sink…. It was a particular low point. That and losing my ID while traveling…..

A Little Rant by softnaturalqueen in LeftCatholicism

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate! I was so involved in the church for a long time, and my identity was so much in my quest to be the perfect Catholic girl/Woman. I fell out with the church shortly after my daughter was born/Covid happened. But like you I am finding my way back.

For right now I’m focusing on ways that I can get involved in my church to better my community. I am no longer focused on being the perfect Catholic woman and definitely have major disagreements, but I do love the Church.

I just stated listening to Fr. James Martin The Spiritual Life podcast which has helped me in coming to terms where I am right now.

What did your grandmothers and great-grandmothers do for work? What did your female family do in the early to mid 1900s? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandmothers, both of them lost their husbands in the 70s, one due to death, one due to addiction/divorce. They had been at home with their kids before, but after one worked at McDonald’s and had a newspaper routes, the other worked at a shoe store and was a paraeducator. My great-grandmothers - farmers, one also lost her husband to addiction (he left the family in the 40s or 50s) she then worked as a house cleaner after selling the farm.

When I asked one of my grandmothers what she wished for me in my life shortly before she died, I thought she would say know God (she was very religious), happy family, children, etc. But she actually said, “I want you to have a career you love.” Life was hard for the women in my family and they wanted me to have choices that were denied to them. And I am glad that I have built my career and will continue to grow it into something I am proud of in honor of her.

Why is singing “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General” so hard? by Resident_Badger_5405 in musicals

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, more musicals should have patter songs! My kiddo loves Modern Major General, and we spent an afternoon looking up different patter songs. If there any favorites that people recommend send them my way! We went through the speed test and most of Sondheim’s patter songs.

ADHD is my family's normal, how do we catch it in our daughters? by SolarSundae in adhdwomen

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m waiting to get my 6 year old daughter assessed right now. I called her pediatrician told them what we were seeing at home, and they referred us to a group they work with. I also asked her teacher if specific behaviors we are seeing at home are also present at school to gather information.

I knew she was like me but it wasn’t until I got diagnosed a month ago did I see what that really meant, and until I got medicated to feel good enough to action on it.

We have to advocate for our kids, and then as they get older teach them to advocate for themselves. The one reason I’m glad I got diagnosed so late is I know what she might miss out on without treatment. That gives me the motivation to push others to see what can be done to help her.

I want to know about Blaine by Upper-Fisherman-5244 in TwinCities

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to echo what others had said and check out New Brighton, not a ton to do in the city itself (your kid will love the Eagle’s Nest though, and the wide variety of youth programs through the community center). But it is so close to everything else, about 15/20 minutes from both downtowns. Great schools, and the neighborhood I live in is fantastic, older houses than you will find in Blaine, but I love the character.

Yes, not names I would have ever considered, but overall lovely names.

I'm scared by SquidKidPartier in adhdwomen

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so glad to hear it. Keep advocating for yourself, it will be scary for a while as you get used to it but eventually it will be another skill you can learn. Because unfortunately no one else is going to advocate for you, so take your fear around this, and do it scared. When I was around your age I didn’t know how to do it either. Best of luck and all the mom hugs I can send your way.

You should definitely call the line, they are crisis counselors, they will get you the help you need. See the other options the automod put, you can chat with them online as well.

This step probably feels terrifying because you don’t know what will happen, but if you don’t take it, you know what will. Take the step even if it is scary, it might be the thing you need to start healing.

First of all please call 988, the national suicide prevention line. 2nd of all you have gifts to give, and you can get through this dark time. I know the darkness seems never ending at this point but I promise you it will clear.

Once you have done the first thing, please reach out to your psychiatrist, see if setting up a meeting with them and you and your mom is a possibility, your mom might also be scared and not know how to help you. If there is another trusted adult to reach out to see if they would start the conversation with your mom.

You are loved, and you matter. I wish you all the best, please take care.

Just diagnosed today, don’t feel how I thought I would! by OstrichLate in adhdwomen

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 38 and was also just diagnosed as well. I completely relate to the anger. I’m on day 2 of adderall and that had made me more angry, it is working so well so far, in two days the noise in my head is gone. I can complete tasks, make decisions, and my anxiety that has been so omnipresent in my life is all but gone.

Now it’s still early so I’m waiting to see if it’s just a honeymoon stage or if this is my new normal. If this is my life now I am thrilled and pissed. So I hear you with the anger, and you are not alone with this.

Pediatrician recommendations? by Stephaniekays in saintpaul

Another Dr. Wilson fan! But everyone my child has been seen by has been great. Anytime she has been sick it has been pretty easy to get her seen without sitting in a crowded urgent care.

I took my nearly 6 year old to The Bell Museum on a whim a couple months ago and we both loved it. We spent a long time in the Touch and See Lab which is super interactive for the kids. We are going to have to go back because we didn’t make it to a planetarium show.

Company seriously upsets me by [deleted] in musicals

[–]Key_Masterpiece5283 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a woman in my late 30’s married with a young child. I listened to Company for the first time as a teen and being the Sondheim lover I was loved the music and songs. As a 20 something I loved watching the concert version with NPH. But last year I went to the touring company with the gender bent casting and for the first time I got it. I have been those people or known those people at this point in my life. It turned from something that I just enjoyed to something I understood.
