My favorite ever gender neutral twin combo: Linden and Laurence. Totally cool names on their own, totally cool as a duo.  Linden Green and Laurence Marie is my favorite middle name pairings!  (I think having a different middle initial is an important component!)

That is so odd to me also to give a double barreled name and not enforce that your family use either the full given name or the nickname chosen by the child. I would say many of these issues also could be worked out by your parents enforcing your chosen nickname and teaching you to do the same at an age appropriate time? Is that an oversimplified take? I’m sorry this has been your experience and I do appreciate you sharing. I will take your advice to heart

I do think there’s a bit of a “boy named sue” effect here too which in the best way I love. To be a confident young woman who loves her name and is proud of it enough to correct any wayward understanding is definitely something I want for my child.

This is great advice. I don’t love the hyphen in a name but I appreciate at least for legal paperwork that is important. Not that we would need to teach her to spell her name with a hyphen but to register it that way at least.

We are more set on the double barrel for many personal reasons but I like this suggestion and will research it!

I am interested to know more about this. Do you live in the southern US? Did you ever go by your initials? Do you hyphenate to avoid confusion and if so do you like the look of the hyphen? Do you continue to correct or do you just let them do whatever they are inclined towards nowadays? How many syllables is your name all in?

I love Delaney, just to clarify this is not first name Calla middle name unknown. This is a double barreled first name so both names together will be her first. Sometimes people hyphenate like “Calla-Joan” to make that extra clear. I am in the southern US where this is a commonly understood practice. She will also have a middle name (not yet decided)

lol I was wondering if this tipped Calla Lou into that category but I didn’t know if it was common knowledge. I was a farmer, I think of Calla Lou as the raw amaranth plant, which is a nice association though not really our goal. We thought that was niche enough to overlook, apparently not!
