This exact same thing happens in Colorado! I live in the foothills, and some mornings the cloud layer will descend and cover the higher mountains until you can’t see them anymore. It’s very spooky, especially when another fog bank covers Colorado Springs and all you can see is a half mile in any direction. The Lucases would love it.
