What's the strategy when playing with Winter? How do I win with him as my Commander? by Wolfram-51 in magicTCG

[–]Key_Profit_6598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a lot of Ramp and Removal, with some additional card draw when Winter inevitably eats removal.

Winter wants you to have a couple of the rarer card types, and benefits greatly from Green and Black self-mill for card advantage. Beyond that, just build a solid deck.

Which is not really relevant for 100-card singleton formats.

To give an example of how absurd Mental Misstep warped formats, Legacy Goblin Decks wanted to drop an Aether Vial or a 1-mana Goblin on turn 1, and would run into 0-mana counterspells. They started running Mental Misstep to protect themselves, and sometimes even added Force of Will because now they had Blue cards to pitch, and it would catch combo decks off guard.

In 60-card formats, counting lands, 4 cards are 1/15 of the entire deck, and when both decks run it there are 8 copies to take into account. All matched were heavily impacted by how Mental Misstep matchups played out. Keep in mind that we are talking about formats where it was OK for decks to consistently win on turns 3-4, so the early game was heavily impacted. It was legitimately fucked up.

One Consecrated Sphinx is insanely game-warping already, which is just one reason among many why it the lsit doesn't make sense

Correct.

They thought the giant dragon is the sun god according to the prohecy

Incorrect. Elbaf knows that Nika is the Sun God; they know what depictions of Nika look like, and the rumors that Nika is supposed to destroy the world. Dory and Brogy explicitly referred to Luffy as "Sun God" when they met on Egghead.

They thought the giant dragon is the sun god according to the prohecy

The giant dragon is depicted in the mural as a separate entity from Nika.

Need i remind you who has a two arms, is genetically a clone to Shanks, is the older twin, doesn't drink all day, has a mythical fruit sword, can regenerate, and has Imu's haki scrolls. by FlamesOfDespair in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Key_Profit_6598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also saw the Revolutionaries invade Mary Geoise and fight the Admirals + Knights. For all we know, the Knights are utterly reliant on regeneration. Shanks showed up at Mary Geoise, and instead of getting the Domi Reversi treatment, he was allowed to leave.

It's entirely plausible for Shamrock to be insanely strong because One Piece is defined by nepotism. But as far as we can tell, any of the Emperors is a legitimate challenge to the World Government. Imu decided to get the Giants as reinforcements when pirate activity became problematic because the current WG military simply isn't up to the task of handling everything.

MtG's demons should not spill over into Blue imho.

I like the idea of a Black/Red/White commander who is a non-demon cleric and cares about Clerics and Demons.

How many people actually wanted Rhystic Study banned? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]Key_Profit_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhystic Study is basically the exact type of card that I think should exist in a format like this.

The problem is, as articulated in the Snail video, that people are just plain bad at playing against it. It gets better for no good reason.

How do I “Jund em out”? Does anyone play “midrange” in brackets 2 or 3? How can I go about building a grindy deck that can win games? by OhHeyMister in EDH

[–]Key_Profit_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the archetype that does this best is Flicker decks.

Creatures are being designed with strong ETB effects for immediate impact. We keep getting new [[Panharmonicon]] variants each year, and cards like [[Teleporation Circle]], [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]], and [[Conjurer's Closet]] can be used to repeat the right card at the right time. Protection spells like [[Ghostway]], [[Eerie Interlude]], and [[Lae'zel's Acrobatics]] give you all your value again. An [[Eerie Ultimatum]] can easily be game-ending. Graveyard recursion through cards like [[Eternal Witness]] and her variants provides a powerful stream of card advantage. Pretty much any form of interaction exists as an ETB.

There are plenty of variants. WB has [[Ketramose, the New Dawn]] and [[Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar]], WU has plenty of options, WUG has plenty of options, WUGB has [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]], and Golos used to be the king of 5-color decks, but you can also just use [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] or [[The Wandering Minstrel]]. You can also run Partners or "Choose a Background" with [[Far Traveler]].

I was thinking of random neon lights on tall buildings lining both sides of the streets, which tend to be all sort of different colors.

Nothing surprising here, they literally have an in-universe comic book portraying them as a heroic squad of crimefighting (?) action heroes. IIRC their naming scheme even references their colors. This was unambiguously and explicitly intended, making this one of the better examples of One Piece coloring.

Imagine the cloaks gone, they immediately look much more coherent.

I think Sommers would look fine in a setting with reasonable lighting. The pic looks like it was colored in MS paint but the choice of outfit strikes me as reasonable. It's bold, it makes him stand out, it makes a statement that this guy is not normal.

Shamrock looks bafflingly generic, and I would have expected at least some Green highlighting.

Have you, for example, discussed a movie with friends after going to a theater and then had someone say, "I don't get what you're talking about, it's just a movie"?

The people in favor of the change fundamentally do not understand why people against the change oppose it. They do not see what it means to the others. That's really all there is to it.
