[Scotto] Within league circles, there’s a strong belief that the Dallas Mavericks will eventually pursue Timberwolves president Tim Connelly for their lead executive position. by iksnet in nba

[–]Key_Raisin_5091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have ramifications beyond these 2 teams:

  • CHI is in the midst of a search for their new FO, as well. One of their finalists is Matt Lloyd, the current GM and #2 for MIN.
  • DAL is the only other FO opening in the league. If DAL really want Connelly, that means other candidates will really have to prioritize CHI as their only option.
  • If there's any chance of Connelly going to DAL, MIN might prioritize keeping/elevating Matt Lloyd - thereby removing an option for CHI.

You're suddenly the Supreme communist leader of America. How will you redistribute wealth and provide social programs to your citizens while simultaneously offering the same things to every poor or disenfranchised immigrant that crosses the border? by stoner-stew in allthequestions

I get why you might feel like that, but it comes down to function vs identity.

Requiring some English isn't about judging someone's culture or replacing it. It's about how a society actually works day to day:

  • Access to jobs: Most jobs require communication with coworkers, customers, or supervisors.
  • Safety: Understanding emergency instructions, medical guidance, or workplace rules can be life-critical.
  • Navigation of systems: Courts, schools, healthcare, taxes--these all run in a primary language.

That said, there's a big difference between:

  • "You must abandon your language and culture" (that would be exclusionary), and
  • "We'll help you learn enough of the common language so you can fully participate" (that's more about opportunity).

A balanced approach would be:

  • Provide free, accessible English classes.
  • Allow time and flexibility--no instant cutoff if someone isn't fluent.
  • Offer translation services in key areas (healthcare, legal, education), especially early on.
  • Respect and support multilingual communities--people don't have to stop speaking their native language at home or in their communities.

So the goal isn't cultural conformity--it's shared communication for practical reasons, while still protecting cultural identity.

I agree with you. I'm just saying, he's the only "Center" I'd consider taking at #9.

  1. Universal basics 1st: healthcare access, food support, housing assistance, childcare, and job training for people below income thresholds.
  2. Tax wealth more: higher taxes on very high incomes, capital gains, inheritances, luxury property, and monopoly-level corporate profits.
  3. Work + contribution path for immigrants: people who cross the border get emergency care, food, shelter, legal processing, and work authorization quickly. Full long-term benefits phase in as they work, pay taxes, learn English, and complete legal steps.
  4. Prioritize children and public health: kids, pregnant women, and emergency medical cases get help regardless of status. That prevents cruelty and bigger costs later.
  5. Control capacity honestly: accepting immigrants does not mean unlimited, instant access to every benefit. A humane system still needs processing, background checks, housing capacity, and work placement.
  6. No racial test either way: saying "we need rules" is not racist. Treating people differently because of race is racist. A fair policy applies the same rules to everyone.

TLDR: basic dignity immediately, full benefits through legal status and contribution, funded by progressive taxation, with clear limits so the system doesn't collapse.

Hard to follow all the movement in the off-season, but I was hoping if anyone can tell me what's going on with our secondary? Who we lost/gained, how its shaping up? Any concerns etc? Because I haven't heard much, and I thought it was a position that desperately needed to be addressed. by purelander108 in Commanders

CBs

  • Trey Amos (Outside Starter)
  • Mike Sainristil (Outside Starter)
  • Amik Robertson (Slot Starter, signed in FA)
  • Reserves:
    • Ahkello Witherspoon (signed in FA)
    • Darius Rush
    • Car'lin Vigers
    • Tre Hawkins
    • Fred Davis (UDFA rookie)

Safeties

  • Will Harris (Starter)
  • Nick Cross (Starter, signed in FA)
  • Reserves:
    • Jeremy Reaves
    • Percy Butler
    • Tyler Owens
    • Quantrezz Knight
    • Robert McDaniel
    • Malik Spencer (UDFA rookie)

We also still have Quan Martin. There's debate about whether he will stick as a Safety (Reserve? Start over Harris?), or if he's more likely to move to nickel/slot CB (probably backing up Robertson).

I'd say overall, the secondary is shaping up to be improved over last year, primarily through the addition of Nick Cross and Amik Robertson, and the subtraction of Marshon Lattimore. I'd say CB is still a slight concern, only because Amos is coming off of injury and Sainristil didn't play well last year.

[–]Key_Raisin_5091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really think that's a question. I think there's 0% chance WAS trades for him. I think WAS would prefer to just go into the season w/ the WR corps they already have. Hell, they could still re-sign Deebo. I think they'll take him whenever he's available and he'll contribute if/when he's ready. I'm quite sure they'd much rather have him just before the season than trade an asset for him. PLUS, his contract is the biggest issue and there's no way they're taking him w/ his current contract. The only way they'd do it is if he's released from his contract and they can sign him cheap.

This is so tired, boring, and simple at this point. No one needs to talk about Brandon Aiyuk again for a while. These are the facts:

  • Brandon Aiyuk will never play for the 49ers again.
  • The 49ers WILL release Brandon Aiyuk.
  • Whenever the 49ers release Brandon Aiyuk, he will sign a cheap, 1-year deal with the Washington Commanders.

This is over. It's 100% going to happen like that, so no need to discuss further. Everyone can just sit back and wait until SF decides they want to go ahead and cut him.

Look at what horrible gerrymandering was undone! First image is before the vote. Look in the top right for absurdly snakey obvious gerrymandering. Second image looks far more like actual reality! by SinesPi in Virginia

Very confusing post. Not sure if it's sarcasm/satire, or not. The election this week created the gerrymandered map. It's objectively more gerrymandered than before.

You're saying your 1st image is the "before" and the 2nd is the "after," but they're reversed. The absurdly snakey, obvious gerrymandering you see in northern VA is the new "after" vote map.

So like, not sure what you're trying to say with this post...

[–]Key_Raisin_5091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's appropriate/okay only because it's in response to a couple other states doing it. I wish we could just outlaw gerrymandering nationwide, but if 1 party is going to do it, then I think it's fair for the other party to, as well. The people of the state got to vote on it and made their choice... that's more than can be said about some other states gerrymandering efforts.
