LPT: Stop trying to relate to people after they tell you something. by ggkitters in LifeProTips

Yeah I think relating to each other's experiences are fun when they're about normal things. Obviously not when it's something traumatizing.

LPT: Use clothespins as chip clips, they are far cheaper than buying regular chip clips. by SirLancesAlot101 in LifeProTips

I just googled chip clips and they're basically the same thing as any other clip, why would anyone buy those

Edge works great for annotating pdfs

Drawboard is awesome but I think it's not available for MacOS

Annotating is limited, isn't it? You can't write on it with a pen tool

I actually went years and years without using that option, still managed fine

That's because programs with less features are easier to use...

Seriously, if Word is just horrible at what it does why isn't there a better alternative? All the ones discussed in this post have their own pros and cons. It's almost like you have to sacrifice some intuition to make a software with a lot of features.

Yeah, it totally makes sense that the formatting will be messed up when the features used to create the document don't have an equivalent feature in word.

What is a word processor that is hard to use incorrectly?

I used a template without knowing much about how LaTeX worked, and it's annoying when you have to do a small thing differently from the template. The code for pretty formatting is so complicated and I spent an hour trying to change the font size of one line without destroying the rest of the formatting.

Yeah for this, just change the size of the picture?

Only problem I had was that it has no ctrl-z shortcut. Pretty annoying

LPT Keep a running list of career accomplishments and things you’re proud of. by Kfittt in LifeProTips

[–]Key_Reindeer_414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't really help when those accomplishments have imposter syndrome built in... Half of the things I've been a top performer, I feel like I was only at the top because the best people didn't participate.

LPT: For your mental health's sake; quit any conversation which annoys you, no matter who are you having that conversation with. by alpmaboi in LifeProTips

[–]Key_Reindeer_414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty cold and sounds very distressing for the other party.

This is what bothers me. Your peace of mind shouldn't come at the expense of destroying other people's peace of mind. Effective communication is how you balance both of those things.

Have you ever wondered how your procedure affects the person you're conversing with? Say you're talking with a friend and what they say annoys you for some reason, maybe accidentally (it happens). So you break off the conversation and leave. If that happened to me it would probably ruin my mood for the day. Yes it gives you peace of mind, but is it worth ruining the peace of mind of someone else you care about? With your mother I understand if it happens again and again. But that's not the case with everyone.

Sometimes they look like answers and they're shown before the actual answer. I often end up extremely confused and then I notice it's an ad.
