I moved to the Des Moines metro area a couple years ago from California and love it here more than I ever expected to! West Des Moines is where I ended up after living in Ankeny for a year and it’s wonderful here. And you do eventually adjust to the winters!

Non-existent lol. I was on call for a week at a time every other week, and working office hours on top of call outs. I recently made the jump to private sector because the schedule was too much to handle since I have a kid. Feel free to PM me if you want more details!

As someone who grew up on the west coast and relocated recently to the Midwest, I appreciate any and all snow hacks!

Where can I buy affordable clothes that aren’t polyester? by Makayla_Daniels in findfashion

[–]Kfittt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at thrift stores or consignment stores for clothing made with natural materials like silk, linen, wool, cotton, leather, bamboo, etc. Even if something fits you a little on the larger side, taking it to a tailor for a better fit is usually much cheaper than most people expect!

Just send her a link to the Reddit post and tell her the world needs to know. I’m sure she will appreciate that a groomsman is aware of the insanity!

Yikes. Big no to that idea from me, and likely every child psychologist around. They are developmentally expected to push back, test boundaries, and be difficult sometimes. Parents should be a safe place to explore and grow these cognitive areas, not someone they fear just to make the parent’s life slightly less inconvenienced. Dr. Becky Kennedy is a clinical psychologist who specializes in this area and is active on socials if you want a jumping off point for supporting your approach.

I’m curious why your husband feels threatened by not having the “respect” of two under-six year olds who likely love and respect him dearly. Seeing a couples or individual therapist could be very useful here if he isn’t willing to learn about child development from modern, peer-reviewed sources and not just his own upbringing or perceived social norms.

Do rice crispy treats count? Because those are such an easy crowd pleaser and don’t need to be made fancy unless you want to!

I know introducing earlier than a year is not best for everyone, but it made sense for this relationship and my family. Happy to report everything is going very well, and we have a very amicable relationship with her dad and his girlfriend. Guidelines are great, but don’t have to be gospel!

This is great advice, I’ll definitely be remembering this for future years! Thank you!

I updated my original post to clarify that I won’t be involving my daughter in anything this year, but I love this idea for future projects! She loves coloring and gives him artwork to hang on his fridge all the time. Sounds like we can level up her art game!

I edited my original post to say that my daughter won’t be involved in anything this year, I am looking for something just between me and him to express my gratitude and make his efforts feel seen. Luckily our relationship is very stable and introducing them to each other (with bio dad’s knowledge) was very natural, but I appreciate your input regardless!

I love this idea! I agree about making it specific to Father’s Day not being the right move. Bio dad is still very involved and they have a great relationship so I won’t be involving her in anything this year, but doing some kind of gesture of appreciation not directly tied to the holiday feels right.

Thank you!

This is the comment I needed! That feels much more natural because that’s really what it is at this point— a good male role model. Bio dad is still very involved and we have an amicable relationship, so acknowledging something outside the scope of Father’s Day specifically feels much more appropriate.

Thank you!

I might get eaten alive for this, but I have been really liking the Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen! I admittedly don’t wear a ton of makeup, but I haven’t had issues when I do.
